actually, seems like they are typically younger too...high school or college. or not...
you know it's a fact that food is better in a mom and pop shop vs. a chain.
Typically yes. But not always. And I don't automatically hate a place just because it's a chain.
You, sir, are the hipster of food!!!!!!
The majority of the time, a local joint will be better than a chain. In these times of "shovel food in your face no matter where it's from" , if a local joint can survive they've got to be on to something.
Name for me a chain that actually has good food (and don't even say Dominos! ). Sure, some local chains might make the cut, but chain-food generally sucks.
Poor quality food shipped in from 1000 miles away from some factory that works for a corporation that shits on local farmers...
Shitty food, shitty preparation...no thanks!

Oh surprise surprise you two are like peas in a pod!
Flattop Grill is a chain and it's one of the freshest restaurants I've ever been to. So yes it is the exception to the rule. My point is that I don't automatically hate everything just because of said rule. I give everything a fair shake.
Well that and honestly, maybe I'm just not that picky a person. I know when food is shit but I'm not gonna sit there and whine like a baby if it's not the best meal I've ever had!

I am picky when it comes to food. I'll admit it.
I try to eat healthy, local and organic. I try to eat minimally processed foods. I try to support the local restaurant as much as I can.
All of that, but at the end of the day it comes down to this:
Life is way too fucking short to eat shitty food.
Oh, and I also believe that shitty food makes your life shorter too!

I'm with you. I love amazing food and appreciate it when I get it, but i'm not picky unless it's terrible (which is when I send it back).
As much as i love a good independent restaurant, I know a lot of chains that are really good. Town Hall Pubs have incredible food, Vera's Burger Shacks always have amazing burgers, and Joey's is pretty good too. The difference lies with corporate - there are a few chains that insist on standards being maintained.
It it is good to support local small business, so I do like the mom and pops myself.... however, I have been to shitty mom and pops. Lots of them. Some towns just have low standards. And a lot of them are filthy, too.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

Pizza, paid by the office. I just wish I knew they were going to spring for pizza so I didn't have to pack my lunch. Well, I guess I know what I'll be having for dinner, then.

#fact
you are getting a 40 year old waitress that doesn't give a shit because she is makign 2 bucks an hour plus tips.
then you have your cook who is making 7.50 an hour. he don't give a shit, so he slops the food on to the grill and then on to a plate.
give me a small mom and pop breakfast place with the owner working in some capacity and there you will find a good breakfast.
that egg at perkins was dripping oil. the biscuits and gravey at cracker was bland and tasteless. might have been the worst breakfast i've ever had.
You think the waitresses at the mom and pop make any more? Nope.
Everything you've ever eaten has been bland and tasteless. Blah blah blah.
someone spit in your sippy cup today?
we will need to get that in July
