Just saw that Band of Horses added a Dallas date for early April. I saw them open for PJ a few times last year, thought they were pretty good, and am thinking of going to the show. Anyone else seen them live and have any comments? Anyone think they might go to the Dallas show?

Worth it for sure. I've seen them several times over the last few years and they just keep getting better and better live. They are awesome, and they busted out with some Yo La Tengo, which was amazing.

Saw them 5x in 2010. Amazing band live. You'll love it. Before I went to see them though I'd heard from others that their sound didn't translate well live. This turned out to be complete bullshit. The keyboardist/guitarist/backing vocalist really changed this band's live sound from their old line up.

For reference I'd go to iTunes and download both free live shows they have under KEXP podcasts. One is just before they released "Everything All The Time" and the other is before "Cease To Begin."

  • I would say definitely worth it. If you like the albums, you will like them live. I was so bummed that I missed them opening for PJ in Noblesville last year, we were forced to go back to our cars right before their set by security and missed their whole set.
Finally saw them in Chicago last October and loved the show. They started with two acoustic songs performed from a tiny balcony box above the crowd right of the stage. It was such cool way to start a show.

  • Ha, forgot to mention forced to go back to cars due to the tornado warnings at the venue, not from anything under our control.

Thanks for the comments! I've only heard Infinite Arms so far, but I really like every song on it. I'll be buying a ticket to the show for sure!

I would give Cease to Begin or Everything All the Time a listen before you go see them. I don't think Infinate Arms gives you a very good idea of what they sound like live. That being said, I really liked the band before I saw a live show and fell in love with them after. They have much more energy than you would think.

I'm quite surprised that every song on infinite arms resonates with you....(not because they are bad songs, they are very good) just because it caused a bit of a rift in the Band of Horses community when it was released a lot of people didnt like this new kind of sound they had. imo though Cease to Begin is definately some of their best work closely followed by infinite arms...I still havent completely got into Everything all the time...working on it though

So worth it. When they opened up for PJ I loved it, but seeing them headline is really something else!

I was fortunate enough to get to go to BoH's show at Grand Central Station in NYC, which was a free show, but they only let in a very small amount of people. Definitely one of the most memorable shows I have ever been to, they totally brought the house down. Great mix of slow, beautiful songs and ones that rocked a little harder. Also was 2nd row right in front of Ben, got a pick, and got to say hi to the guys as they were leaving! What an incredible experience, I definitely recommend seeing them live and can't wait til I get to see another one of their shows!

It'll be so worth it Better Dan. Don't make the same mistake I did by second guessing if you like them enough; because they are that good you do like them that much, even more probably!
All three albums are great, and each have little details that make them stand out on their own. Don't limit yourself to just one album.

I haven't kicked myself more for missing out on a show than missing out on Band of Horses in New York City, and not once but twice actually, last summer. I knew of Band of Horses (heard about them on these forums first probably) but it was my brother who really peaked my interest right around the time they played in Brooklyn. I was debating whether I liked them enough to go alone without my brother who had to work, but soon enough the decision was made for me because tickets were sold out. And then I missed out on the Grand Central Station show because by the time I found out about it was too late to get there (and my brother had off work too!). It is seriously painful to watch any of the Grand Central Station videos because of the regret for missing it.

I sort of put them on the back burner between then and now but uncannily (with the Dallas show coming up) my brother was visiting me the other week and naturally put on Band of Horses and since he has left I've been listening to nothing but Band of Horses, My Morning Jacket, and Wintersleep almost literally nonstop. And today I found out they are headlining in Dallas, which is perfect because I get to rectify my past mistake and see them when I'm a crazed fan that can't get enough.
I can't fucking wait for the Dallas show!

    Hi Roman,

I was actually second guessing whether I liked them enough to see them after I bought the tickets so you read my mind LOL. I started listening to their albums more and now I'm also really looking forward to the Dallas show. My wife and I are having a hard time finding a sitter so I may have an extra ticket but wont know for sure for a few days. Do you know anyone that might need one?

Also, who is opening for them this tour? Is the opening band any good?

haha I don't know of anyone looking for a ticket but I'll ask around. I hope it all works out. Midlake is opening and I feel like I read somewhere there is another band too but can't find any info. It's weird that it isn't listed on ticketmaster or the Band of Horses website. I'm not that familiar with Midlake. I've heard of them and remember liking them ok a couple of years ago. Jeff Ament likes their latest album so that's a good sign http://community.pearljam.com/viewtopic ... 4&t=146590 Thanks for the reminder to start listening to them before the show.
edit: just found out Midlake are from Denton, TX thought that was kind of interesting.
