Avocado live

The great thing about PJ's music is it catches me differently at different times. Wheather it's studio albums or official boots, you can pick them up after a long while and listen as if it's new again. Ahhhh...the staying power of great music.

Anyway, one of my favorite boots is Gorge 2006/07/23. The Avocado tracks absolutely rock. Matt sounds great...and to think he sings back-up throughout most of those songs. What an amazing musician. I think Avocado gets overlooked live based on the numerous threads I've read.

Love this album live, the studio version, everything. "World Wide Suicide" was awesome live, but from listening to boots, there isnt one song that they cant play better live from that album.

  • That album might be my favorite these days. I never loved Worldwide Suicide though. Rest of the album's incredible, and even better live.

You know, I think many things go into making an album great. The songs of course are most important, but the vibe during recording is important as well. Album artwork is important, it can help promote certain ideas, Vitalogy was great for this. For me though Avocado was let down in the recording process. I know Adam Kaspar had produced a few great Albums and look, maybe it wasn't just Adam that can be pin pointed, but the whole Album sounds too similar. Albums like Yield, No Code, Vitalogy, they all had a really unique vibe in their recording. Almost every song had a different sound to it. There was much light and shade. Avacado it's documented, has a lot of immediacy about it. The songs were not worked over before they got in the studio and the band nutted out every song together in the studio and I think you can sense that. It feels like they were all nutted out quite methodically and recorded and mixed too heavily. For me, sound wise, it's like an AC/DC album. You listen to it from start to finish and it feels like they used the same guitars, same amps, same effects on every single song. It's very polished. Too polished - just like I think Backspacer is. That works for many bands, but I don't think it worked as well for PJ here. This album has some fucking amazing songs on it and I don't think they were given the right treatment. But that's just me : )

Very good album, great songs, fucking great live songs.
  • Anyone know the show they did this whole album on? Is there a boot? Love me some Avocado!!

I've been fortunate enough to catch every avocado song live. Really liked Marker and Inside Job. Inside Job was a great opener in vegas 06.
