WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio is suing a congressional cafeteria for dental damage he says he suffered after biting into an olive pit in a sandwich wrap he bought there.
Kucinich's attorney, Andrew Young, declined to comment Wednesday on the lawsuit seeking $150,000 in damages from companies involved with the Longworth House Office Building cafeteria. A spokesman in Kucinich's congressional office also declined to comment.
The civil suit filed earlier this month in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia said the wrap "contained dangerous substances, namely an olive pit," that a consumer would not reasonably expect to find in the product served. The suit said that Kucinich suffered "serious and permanent" dental and oral injuries requiring multiple surgical and dental procedures.
Kucinich's lawsuit said the Ohio Democrat bought the sandwich on or about April 17, 2008. He is seeking damages for "past and future medical and dental expenses, compensation for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment and other damages."
The liberal congressman made an unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
Two of the companies named in the suit, Compass Group USA Inc. and Performance Food Group Co., declined comment through spokespersons.

even so, did the cafeteria do it on purpose? most likely not...shit happens...it's life...people need to start taking responsibility for theirs
Godfather.
ok... I get that an olive shouldn't have a pit in it, but calling it a "dangerous substance" is a bit of a stretch. And suing for past and future medical and dental expenses? really? You get awesome free health care from our tax dollars, I'm pretty sure you didn't have to pay much (or anything) out of pocket for this.

I really like DK, my choice for President if he was ever given a chance. However, this is too much reason being these Congress people have health care for life once elected and he suing over a olive pit bite. It must have been a REALLY good samwich, if he didn't have dental insurance that's one thing but this really weak.
I gather after he is stormed with some negativity he will drop this very weak suit.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect your food to be somewhat inspected by the person preparing it....if someone neglecting to do so resulted in me being laid me up for months, I'd probably be pretty pissed too.

I thought about this thing more and I agree, the person preparing the food should bear some responsibility. If it happened to me, I probably wouldn't sue, because it's not like me, but if I had to pay all that money out of pocket for dental work, at the error of a cafeteria worker, I'd be pretty upset, as much as anyone else!
And I still think passing judgment on this little bit of info is really not fair. We still don't know the whole story here.
Sounds reasonable to me. I wasn't skeptical to begin with. I've lived thru some horrible dental issues though.
Ohio's Kucinich settles olive-pit-in-sandwich suit
These days dental expenses can be quite high I should know.
