This is pathetic. The current laws arent working. Time for a change..

    I didnt know this:
"Many of the weapons purchased by the groups were AK-47s, which were banned under federal law in 1994, but became legal when the ban lapsed in 2004."

I think this was the same time/laws that were changed to allow high capacity magazines in some handguns too. It went from 10 rounds to 30+ (in 2004) I think.. :?

Though I don't like guns, I can understand a pistol, rifle, etc... (I wish they weren't legal, but I digress)...

Why the FUCK does anybody need an AK-47? Seriously. When is that ever necessary.

With it being probably the most popular automatic weapon in the world it could be used to trim a tree branch. It's getting ridiculous the amount of fire power out there, one has no idea how powerful these automatic weapons are until one fires one.

On another note the M60, I many times years ago fired *The Pig* and you would be amazed at the fire power of the machine gun. Just don't touch the barrel after firing. Also they are legal to buy in some states, they start somewhere around 25k and way up. I'm sure these cartels have a few of these too. :(

In an early morning round-up in Arizona, law enforcement agents Tuesday arrested 20 people who are accused of illegally buying hundreds of AK-47s and other firearms at U.S. gun stores. The defendants allegedly acted as "straw purchasers," falsely declaring on federal forms they were purchasing the weapons for themselves, rather than their real clients: the Sinaloa Cartel and other Mexican drug trafficking organizations across the border, the officials said.

so lying about the gun purchase on a federal form...ie a crime...some how means they are buying them legally?

I don't understand it...if there is a raid on anything, wouldn't that mean that illegal activity is suspected? this may be the most misleading title of an article I have seen.
None of what they are doing is legal

What if... I decided to buy an AK-47... then, decided... 'Hmmmm, you know what... I don't think I need this to gun to get rid of that hornet's nest in my eaves'. And decided to sell it.
How the heck did I know they were drug lords? They never told me they were... even though I never asked, 'Hey... are you a Drug Cartel dude?'.

Well... that's what the Second Amendment says. It's one's right. Can't take that away or try to limit it, can one?

In Tijuana it already is. Hundreds of murders every year, mostly gang and drug related.
Perhaps they should be given as many guns as they want because eventually they'll wipe themselves out.

 But then there are the innocent bystanders. My plan has a few flaws.

    that isn't what happened here.

Yeah, I know it's not this case... but, wouldn't a good defense be that the 20 people were merely unwitting middlemen in the transactions?
What are the rules for private individuals re-selling their legally purchased guns? Why can't you buy a gun... legally... and turn around and sell it for a profit?
We agree, The seller SHOULD be held to the same standards as a licensed gun retailer... but, is he? If you were to sell your gun... do you have to put the guy buying it through a background check? I'm guessing... NO (and in the case of most Southern states, absolutely NOT).

This is called capitalism. It's helping to put money in the pockets of these US gun distributors. Would you rather those jobs go elsewhere? ;)

basically local laws apply, but if a resident of a state wants to sell to another state all they need to know is that the person is a resident and that they can legally own a firearm.
I guess if a guy came up to me and wanted me to buy him an AK-47 and then he would pay me it would send of HUGE signals...but then again I am not an idiot...tough to say that about most people. I will say that claiming ignorance when selling a fire arm is not a good defense and would more than likely not work...but they sure could try it.
