We wanna bring our DOG to LA!!

Great stuff in the "LA People!! Hotel?" thread, but I have another wrinkle...

We want to bring our sweet, 13 year old Golden Retriever with us (no, not to the show :p). I'm having no luck finding a dog-friendly hotel. One "dog friendly" place charges a $250 deposit and a $150 non-refundable cleaning fee. Real friendly! Another place has a 10 pound limit, which might work for Paris Hilton but not for me!

Our old pooch will probably sleep the whole time we're out. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Find a kimpton hotel - I believe they are all pet friendly. They usually are expensive though.

  • I think most of these "Pacifica Hotels" take pets and they are pretty nice places...We stayed at the Fog Catcher Inn in Cambria, CA with our dog, it was a really great place with down bedding and fireplaces in the rooms...

That is awesome! I have an 11 1/2 yr old black lab - named "PJ" - she is my world. I would love to take her but she is passed her airplane days. Plus contrary to her name, she gets sick of Pearl Jam since thats about all I play. The look on her face when i start a cd is priceless.

  • Sadly, Los Angeles is not a dog-friendly city.

You can't even take your dog to the majority of city parks and you have to drive to Orange County or Ventura County to take your dog on the beach.

The kennel idea isn't really a bad one.

I've travelled with my dog twice when I couldn't find a pet-friendly hotel or I knew I was going to be tied up too long to leave him in my truck. Both times I tracked down a good vet/kennel in the town I was staying.

I'm sure someone on the board from LA could help you ID a good one and you can spring him during the day. It's better than leaving him at home for the whole trip.

The only thing you normally have to do is have your dog's shot record with you.

    Good luck!

Many vets will also bored dogs for you as long as you have shot records and all. My vet offers day care for pets whose owners work and don't want their homes and yards torn to pieces by a lonely animal. Some of the kennels I used to board my dogs in while on vacation were more posh than the places I stayed in!

I would love to take my Bulldog, Boston with me on a plane, but I'm really scared she would not make it. Did your Dog do well on planes?

Did you check out this Ramada? It's not the same as the one that I think you checked out previously. This one is 3 miles from the Wiltern, accepts dogs for $35 a day. We got it for $120 a night on hotels.com.

  • I know some Radisson hotels allow pets, I think they have to be under 50lbs though. And it depends on which location you select, the ones near the airport seem to be the ones that allow pets..
  • Try looking up some hotels on pethotels.com. I found alot of great places when I travelled up the coast with my little fuzzy girl.
LA does have alot of parks...if you know where to look.
  • AW. My folks used to stay at la quinta's. they would drive from st. louis to palm springs. We had a 13 year old golden that was too old to board. She would also get upset with us when we left her.

Sadly we had to have her put down 2 years ago. Happily now we have a 8 month old golden.

Yay! I'm glad it worked out. When we bring our pooch, it's always a pain in the butt trying to find someplace.
  • Done deal as in you booked a hotel or your flight? If you haven't booked your hotel yet, PM me. I have a book all about California and dog-friendly places (my sister sent it to me as we're thinking about moving out there, and she thought it would help sway our decision since we have 2 labs).

If anyone else needs Cali dog info, it's a big book with every city in it. :) Let me know.

Edit- there's also pricing info, and there are somewhat cheaper ones than $35 for the dog if that interests you.

We made it!! Shelby was the Queen of the Ramada. Of course, with parking, dog fee, tax, etc., the rate was $200. Oh well, it was a great show :D.

    1. I am a dog person.

    2. This post made me laugh so hard that I had to wipe food off my monitor.
