NYC United Palace Theater Pre-Party - 8.4

Myself and a friend are going into the city early to get my 10c tickets (hopefully a poster) and to grab a few drinks. I know, I know... its Washinton Hieghts but having worked for a scaffolding company in nyc for 3 years its NOT a bad place. As long as you dont collapse from culture shock :)

Just wondering if and where anybody else is going to be prior to the show. Or if anyone else can reccomend a place nearby to hangout in. I googled bars in the area and the only close one i found was some crazy latin gay bar. Not my cup of tea.

I've checked out the area with some internet guides and it seems there are a few restuarants in the area, but not too many bars. This area is known for its gay bars, so its possible to take one over for the night.

Methinks a trip uptown may be the best bet of finding a worthy establishment.

Ok, I've found this place that might be cool. It's an irish place called coogan's and it's on broadway and 169th (we'd have to walk a few blocks, but the streets are shorter than the avenues) ck out the link (if it works)

Here's a useful site. Just move the cursor over the map to 175th and Broadway. It lists and describes 18 bars around there.

Thanks for the info. but I think Coogan's is more my style. I'm gonna go there and I'm driving in, so if anyone wants to go and needs a ride up to the palace from there, let me know. I can fit 6 more in my truck.

Coogans would be the best bar cause its an irish bar. Just catch the 1,A, or C to 168th street and its right there. There is also a nice wine bar next to coogans.

Bring your skateboards and skate with the kids cause they all love to board in Washington Heights.
    Too many shows to list:
From my first show in Hawaii when they opened for RHCP to upcoming 2016 MSG and Wrigley. Seen them in every continent except Africa and Antarctica.
  • I live in the area and Coogan's will be the best bet. It is big, laid back, cheap, close and they have decent food. There are a few other great bar's in the area but none that are too big.

Coogan's it is then. If we could get some kind of estimated head count, I'll call the place and see if they can reserve a large area for us.

Hi, I'm new to the boards and I'd like to meet up. What time do you expect to be at Coogan's? Pick up tickets at 4:30, be in the seats before 7:30, but what time do the posters go on sale?

Thanks for organizing this. I would have had no idea where to eat near the theater.
  • pink1969pink1969 Posts: 245
I'm getting to Coogan's around 4:30. I didn't get my tickets through 10c, but can I still get a poster? I don't know what time they go on sale.

I've never been to a Pearl Jam fundraiser before. Tell me if I understand it right....

Somebody organizes the fundraiser, which involves choosing a cause (PJ related?). Unofficial t-shirts are sold (pretty cool that this is not frowned on like cheap parking lot shirts). Raffle tickets are sold for PJ prizes that people donate.

Is the bar involved with a fundraising cover charge and/or drink prices?

I'm impressed that you guys are so philanthropic and organized. Can't wait to see what it's like.

If anybody knows how the poster sales might work (from the west coast tour or from any venue information), I'd love to hear it. I was thinking they would go on sale when doors open. Are we predicting the same poster both nights?

Pink, I noticed on another thread that the original poster was able to edit the first post of the thread, and add the names of people who are attending. Maybe you can do that here based on replies on the board, rather than getting PMs?

I will be there both nights, probably with my seatmate.

CC NYC, are most of the fundraisers put on by Wishlist? Do they provide the t-shirts for sale?

yeah, wishlist has done most of the pre-party fundraisers. They said they could get us the t-shirts. As you probably have seen people also donate pj related items which are raffled off. As soon as I confirm with the place I will start another fundraising thead.

In the meantime if you or anyone wants to help out or donate something,
    send me a message.

    thanks!!
