Whats everyones take on the new album. He has moved farther and farther away from Creek Drank the Cradle, the hushed bedroom vocals and just him and his guitar are sort of gone. There are electric guitars, jazzy sections with a saxophone, alot of sort of funky rhythms.

that said, the album is actually pretty damn good. Some of the songs are absolutely gorgeous. Tree By the River, Godless brother in Love, Half Moon, and Walking Far From Home, those are so beautiful.

While I miss the old days of just Sam and his guitar singing these lullabyesque songs, if he can continue to put out songs like the ones i listed above, I will be happy indeed.

  • i agree all 4 of the albums are great. its all a matter of what you prefer. If you like the sort of quiet, hushed, postal service type music without the beats and electronics, just stark, raw acoustic indie music, i'd say his first two are the best starting point, both are recognized by alot of people as being 2 of the best albums of the last decade, those are Creek Drank the Cradle and Our endless Numbered Days. Its basically just him, his and his acoustic guitar. The last 2 albums, Shepherds Dog and the new one, are different from the first two. Sam starts introducing electric instruments and playing with different rhythms and sounds, and the introducing of a full band experience.

I prefer Creek, and Endless Numbered, but Shepeherds Dog was named one of the best albums of 2007 as well so...
