You really do not get a line like this from any other band

'Cause you don't give blood then take it back again'

Grievance
"First of all, there’s the palpable camaraderie and good feeling you get from the entire band as they smile and nod at each other, and huddle together in various formations throughout the show --- They look like they really like each other. They look stoked!"

    Grievance

Grievance IS one of the best rock songs ever written. It is everything a rock song should be. Rebellious, angry, loud...

"For every tool they lend us... a loss of independence"

Think about how true that line is.

Great, great song in my opinion.

  • God's Dice and Greivance are my faves from that album. Something about Binaural...

Grievance is the best rock song off the last three albums, nothing else compares. It's the anger, the complexity of the music and that drum beat at the start the first sound on the song: Matt's tom pounding out deep, springy and hard as nails!

Indeed - there is no better line.
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.

Great great song. Grievance is one I hope for every time at a show. I listen hard for those drums at the beginning.

  • Eddie writes em good alright! Grievance is rockin (one of my favs) but at the same time time there's also a singalong aspect to it.

  • Grievance is pure anger and i love it. The song is perfectly crafted and has great lyrics from Ed. They're some of his best.

    I also love "I'm a thief, I'm a liar, there's my church, i sing in the choir..."

I don't think any other band could pull off cool lines like this!
"This town deserves a better class of criminal... and I'm gonna give it to them."

  • ...We're all deserving So much more!
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!
  • "Well I just heard the news today
It seems my life is going to change
I closed my eyes, begin to pray
Then tears of joy stream down my face"

    Oh wait.... nevermind... my bad!
For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!

    From the new album:

"Empty chair where dad sits ... how loud can silence get?"

    "Thought becomes numb and naive"

if we're talking really great lyrics i just HAVE to mention
"to myself I surrender to the one I'll never please"
and the way he just sings that lyric! WOW! it's so simply sad.

I love this song. My favourite moment with this song was in Sydney 1 2006.

Ed fucked up he forgot to sing the
    'Progress,... taste it,... invest-it-all
    Champagne breakfast for everyone'

As quick as anything he sings

'I shared my grievance with the crowd

Break the innocent when they're proud.
I'm not perfect I let you down'

I was hoping for Grievance at the three shows I went to. Finally got it at MSG2 I rocked out hard . The music and lyrics hit like a brick to the jaw. I had adrenaline bumping in my vines when that song finished.

Thank You pearl Jam for that damn near "religious" experience.
