2008 tour bootlegs

The official boots for the 2008 tour are still up for sale in the goods section, so I assume the consensus is that they are still not OK to trade?

if so, isn't this a bit much at this point? two and half years? I mean, I can definately recall being able to trade '03, '05 and '06 official boots well within 2 years afterwards.

it's not like they don't have any newer shows to have up for sale: all of '09 and '10 are up there.

yeah, I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks that at this point, it's a little ridiculous. for a band with such a fan-friendly history (especially when it comes to live recordings), it seems atypical...it seems to me like it's a decision based strictly on greed.

I mean, when it comes to bootleg collectors, there are 3 types: a) people who buy most/all of the official boots for a tour as soon as they are available (or relatively soon thereafter); b) people who have the budget to buy a select few right away / soon thereafter, and then trade to get the rest of what they want; and c) people who really can't afford to buy boots and rely almost soley on trading.

so my question is, who is PJ holding out for in terms of still buying 2008 official boots? not group a. groups b and c are the people interested in obtaining more of them, and those people have primarily not purchased anything else yet due to financial reasons. therefore, it seems like the decision to still have them up for sale for such a long time is to make those people break and just buy a few here and there, spread out over time. smacks of greed to me.
again, especially since in the past, tours were available to trade well within 2 years of having taken place.

in a few months we'll be going on 3 years.

  • what a friendly to fans band has to do with selling their music?
so ten album is 20 years old..they should give it for free?
the previous years like 2000 2003 cd are out of stock..so its ok...2005 2006 was dgital
but 200-2009-2010 is different story..they can product as they like...so will be at good sections..

That's just the way it is. They don't have to allow the free trading of the previously released bootlegs also. They just do and there are a great many who appreciate this.

I don't know where I gave the impression that my opinion was that they couldn't do it.

of course they can do whatever they want.

I'm just asking if people think that, given the history, it's a more than a little atypical behavior for them

I dunno about that - I can recall pretty recently seeing 2000 cds on shelves in best buy...

their previous history of selling bootlegs didn't involve continually hosting downloads. now they do. i don't think it can be any reasoning more simple than that. it is not at all ridiculous.

in addition, i'm thinking the days of freely trading old official shows will be coming to an end sooner than later. allowing trading of old bootlegs was done, i feel, because the sale of those shows, once off sale at the site/retail, did not bring the band any money, so there was no reason for them to prevent it. it also made sure fans seeking those shows on here were not getting ripped off.

now that they have shows hosted on a continual basis, i expect old tours will be put up eventually. and when they do, there goes the free trading.

and there is nothing wrong with them doing that, no matter how it was done in the past. call it greed if you want, but they have the infrastructure now to host bootlegs (much like phish and other bands who continue to sell old shows) and there's no reason for them to take them down once they are put up.

You can trade audience recordings of the 2008 tour just no official bootleg recordings.

Even if the 10club doesn't sell anymore the '08 bootlegs, if they are still available over @ http://kufala.com/ & you can still download them over @ iTunes, you still can't trade them here.

and with pj radio airing a sbd of the 5/10/00 bellingham show, i'm even more convinced this will happen sooner than later.
