Anyone ever been?

The Mrs. and I may travel to the festival this year. How does it compare to the other major UK festivals?

Thanks!

I went in 2009 and it was really cool - I'd recommend it anyone. There's a really nice and relaxed atmosphere there, it's way more laid back than most UK festivals I thought. And spending the day laying on the grass in the sun listening to bands with a beer is always a winner!

The nights were split up more than they are this year - Friday was dance music (Prodigy and Basement Jaxx), Saturday was more indie (Stereophonics headlined) and Sunday was a rock day with Neil Young, The Pixies and Killing Joke. You get a pretty good mix of music but the most bizarre scheduling we saw was Mercury Rev playing in the tent - followed by Will Young!

Thanks for the info! Is it possible to stay in S'Hampton or Portsmouth and take the ferry everyday?

It is possible but it's more fun to stay on the IOW and it may work out cheaper than getting the ferry each day. We stayed from the Wednesday to the Monday and made a small holiday of it.

There's plenty of affordable B&Bs there if you get in early and the buses to the festival are well organised and pretty cheap. If you're close enough to walk to it there's plenty of market stalls and parties to stop in on the way too that add a bit to the atmosphere.
