interesting how both portray this kid. I think this is why people tend to gravitate to "news" outlets that give them the kind of story they want. This kid clearly is troubled and nothing was politically motivated in the sense of "violent rhetoric and vitriol" did not drive him to do what he did....yet reading these articles you would think from the fox news report that he was perfectly sane and able to tell right from wrong, and from the msnbc article, which states it wasn't politically motivated but then throws in comments from multiple public figures about how politics caused it, you get a picture of a troubled kid that the system failed. Interesting that no where on the msnbc website could I find an article with Zach Osler's comments...maybe I searched wrong, but this really does tell us a lot about how these "news" organizations work.

This really isn't about the act, it is more about the coverage...

  • even a cursory look at this writings on Youtube (I think they've been taken down) suggests that Loughner is insane. It reads like it was written by a drunk seven year old.

And yeah, let's stop pointing fingers please. I think Palin is the devil's afterbirth, but I don't think she should be blamed.

True. But, don't you think there should be clearer differences between what the crazy people say... and the arguements we hear coming from politicians and political pundits? I mean, a lot of the stuff you hear coming from the mouths of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh these days sounds a lot like the rambling manifestos of the UnaBomber. It is getting harder and harder to differentiate between the loonies on the fringe and the political 'Experts' on television and radio. When it is normal to see a guy with a loaded sidearm and a sign saying shit about 'Watering the tree of Liberty with the blood of the Patriots' outside of a Town Hall... and we DON'T think it's insane... then, we can't possibly distinguish the Loughner's from everyone else because he fits in with the crowd.
How about the people who are supposed to be experts in the field of politics start acting like it again? Make it a lot easier to sort out the nutcases from the rest of society.

How about we all just turn off the TV?

That's part of the problem, right there.
