Any gear heads get revved up for this show or an auto show near where they live?

According to this article its the year of the hybrid.

Anyone own a hybrid? Thinking of getting one? If you own, do you like/dislike?

i'm hoping to get about two more years out of my car (2004 Volkswagen Golf) they said a hybrid Jetta will be out by then, kind of hoping for something smaller but the price sounds resaonable between 16,000 and 17,000 to start, with out the cool stuff.

Hopefully by then Hybrids will be a lot more common place.

I don't see the price coming down much until hybrids are more common. Bought a chevy cobalt 9 months ago for commuting to work, for what I paid there is no way a hybrid justifies the cost. Around here trucks, suv's and mini vans still are huge sellers.

hybrids are hard to justify based strictly on savings on gas ... no one ever factors the decrease in pollution and what that is worth tho ...

we should be into electric cars in a few years ... that's where we need to go as the only real advantage hybrids have are that they don't idle when the car is stopped or at a light ... my gf drives a prius and it goes from electric to the gas engine pretty quick ...

You can factor in the advantages to the environment if you want, but I think most people have to look at the cost and to see whether the cost saving in gas justifies the purchase. In my case, it was even close, plus my cars is great on gas burns fairly low emissions.

The all electric car for most people will likely remain unaffordable, IMO.

definitely ... i'm just saying saving money on gas is not the only reason to buy a hybrid ...

well ... the volt and leaf are first generation and you can get them for under $40k which is steep for sure ... but you gotta assume in 5 years or so ... we'll see models for under $30k ... and i'm talking about production sedans as opposed to the ones you can buy now in some markets ...

    Never would have guessed that!!!!

Ending our dependence on oil (and providing some benefit to the environment as well) sounds like a pretty good idea. ;)

I would be more likely to buy a hybrid in the future if prices come down a little and stabilize, it would also depend on the battery warranty as well, the batteries are quite expensive from what I read, but in time they to will drop in price. On the flip side car manufacturers are making regular gas engines far more fuel efficient and they burn cleaner than ever before and are getting better.
