Van Morrison

I've just began exploring his catalog thanks to my old man. I knew it'd be worth it...by Dad has yet to give me a bad recommendation. In fact he's solely responsible for my love for Neil Young, Elton John, Bob Seger, and Leon Russell.

Anyway, I digress... yeah... Van Morrison. He's quite the bad ass so far. I'm really loving the songs "Sweet Thing" and "T.B. Sheets"

This guy has got some superb songwriting skills, so I thought he deserved a thread of his own.

Discuss George Ivan Morrison, or...Van Morrison:

Just realized "T.B. Sheets" is in a Martin Scorsese film, "Bringing Out The Dead".

Van Morrison has some great tunes.

The Dead weather did a sick cover of "you just can't win" from his band, "Them".

My Dad let me borrow that as well. I've yet to get to it, but in time I'm sure it'll be on heavy rotation.

No problem man. VM is normally on heavy rotation in the summer for me. Nothing better than throwing back a few beers and jamming out to him I couldn't find any good videos for "and it stoned me" on YouTube.

Listened to that this morning. I've been listening to The Best Of, but soon I'm going to move on to actual LP's. I borrowed Tupelo Honey, Moondance, and The Healing Game.

I've heard from some others that his show is fantastic, but the guy isn't exactly one to communicate on stage and really does present a grumpy vibe.

Caravan on Moondance is awesome. I was blasting that this morning on my way to work.

Thanks to Baba for showing me that version w/ The Band...now I'm addicted to that video.

If I remember correctly, there was one time at a concert where he threatened to leave if everybody didn't sit down.

The other day I found out that Van Morrison is playing at that stadium in Queens someone wants Pearl Jam to play at. I've never been to that venue and I have conflicted feelings about it. I have no conflicted feelings about Van Morrison, I love his work. I have never seen him live, a couple years ago when he played here I tried to get tickets but they were too expensive.
The show in Forrest Hills is also too expensive but I figured I should try for tickets anyway just in case. I already have tickets to another show on the same fucking day!! But I found someone to take my ticket for THAT show off my hands if need be.
Yesterday I started wondering, however - what are the odds that the man is gonna come all the way the fuck to Queens and just play one show and then leave? I know nothing about his tour habits. I Googled a little and saw that he added a second show at the Beacon in 2013 when he played MSG. But according to his website He's playing London on June 15, then Queens on June 19, then back in England June 25.

Kind of a long trip for one show in Queens right? Likelihood of him adding another show day after or so.. which would allow me to eat my cake too.... maybe? Possibly?

    Nice!

Astral Weeks is an amazing album.  I remember when it came out thinking, Oh man, this is great- I've never heard anything like it.
