The third protest rally was yesterday and it was announced that the ownders of the building have offered the building to the community for a price of £750,000. The offer is on the table until the end of April, so there's going to be some frantic fundraising in Penrith.
Thanks to everyone who signed the petition, it really has helped.
I've put some pictures in the end of the tread if anyone wants to take a look, they're not great I'm still getting the hang of the camera.![:D :D](https://community.pearljam.com/plugins/emojiextender/emoji/yahoo/grin.gif)

It's probably a bit daft to put this on here, but I'm doing it anyway.
The building owners of my local cinema have not renewed the cinema lease as they have decided that our small town (pop approx. 15,000) would benefit more from an all day pub (Witherspoons I believe). This is despite the cinema being a profitable business, even in these harsh economic times.
As with many small towns we are limited to what there is available for kids/teenagers to do, especially when they reach the age that they can start to do things independantly. This is one of the few things they can do.
I would be really grateful if any of you could find the time to sign this petition, the more names we have the better. There was a protest today which received local press coverage and there will be one again next Saturday.

LikeanOcean, perhaps long term cinemas will become fewer, but at the moment this cinema is running profitably, unlike many other business in our area.

We are doing a protest outside the cinema again next Sat at 1.00pm and a bit of a march (did it yesterday but are hoping for a bigger crowd next week)
A local shop is printing free T-shirts - shall I get you one?
i meant do you need me to speak with any of your community leaders? once they hear the juggler is supporting this, it will surely help your cause. my influence goes a long way.
I disagree ... I think there will always be cinema goer's ... there was a time it was thought the increase of video rental stores in the 80's would kill of cinema's ... it had an impact for a while but once the novelty wore of people were returning to cinema's in droves.Cinema's in my area reopened in the 90's due to demand after being closed in the 80's
I understand technology,home screen size availability has increased to ridiculous sizes but few house will ever be able to recreate the sound quality and true screen size that a cinema can afford.
As a avid film fan and cinema goer I choose the cinema over home film watching anyday.Cinema will be like vinyl ... it will always have it puritans ... thank goodness
Petition signed!
Signed.
We were on the local news, unfortunately the bit they filmed didn't have much of the crowd in, it was all behind the camera. I'm in the blue ski jacket holding the wriggly dog;

Hope that works
What a shame can't view the video outside of UK...
Claire it's signed. I hope you are successful. Why do they close these places down?? :evil:
Agree with you 100%
Those who watch film as an art form will keep the cinema alive. Going to the cinema is a unique experience that cannot be replicated from home.

March went ahead again this last Saturday, a lot more people turned up, including the local MP. Quite a lot in a fancy dress which was fun to see. More protest events on the horizon

The hussle and bustle of Feilding, New Zealand. About 2 hours north of Wellington and 2.5 hours south of Taupo.
People gathering in the street (2nd March);
Before they stopped the traffic so we could walk down the road;
My friend Chris dressed as a nun (she's actually a teacher but she was dressed as one of the characters from Sister Act - quite a lot of people dressed up);
Molly doing her bit by wearing a 'Save our Cinema' T-shirt (I'm in the hat) 3rd March;
A local lad making a speech, 3rd March;
Another one of Molly - just because;
