Melvins/High On Fire vs QOTSA

I have a predicament. Do I go and see the Melvins and High On Fire double bill or the QOTSA? They are playing in my city (Wellington, New Zealand ) on the same night. Feb 22. This is very unfortunate scheduling as we do not get a lot of shows here so to have them play on the same night really sucks. Who would you guys recommend seeing?

That's a tough one, but I'd go see QOTSA too. As much as I like both the other bands, I'd still go see QOTSA.

I saw Melvins in '03 and it was a great show. I know Qotsa are probably more popular, but I never cared for them. If you're interested in seeing a good hard rock show, Melvins is the way to go!
  • shit... i didnt even realize QOTSA were touring... my vote definitely goes to them tho

I know we all have our opinions, but QOTSA is the tightest band I've ever seen. How can you not go see a band that plays this confidently and well.

With the exception of a couple people on the board, QOTSA is one of the few bands that gets virtually unanimous support around here. Can't wait for their next album. Their remastered self titled album comes out this Tuesday.

Is the remeastered s/t still happening? It's already been pushed back once and I'm still yet to see anything concrete on it's release. Nothing on Rekords Records site and Amazon says release date has yet to be determined. Anyone know what the deal is?

I saw a post on the QOTSA board with a tour ad for their Oz shows and in the bottom corner of the ad S/T was advertised as coming out 2/25 down there. Anxious for it to come out.

I'd go with QOTSA. I had a similar dilemma back in August when I had a ticket to their benefit show at Club Nokia here in LA and won tickets to My Morning Jacket the same night. Chose Queens and was so glad I did. They encored with 4 songs with Mark Lanegan which was the 1st time I'd seen him perform with Queens since 2003. Absolutely incredible.

Wikipedia says it's coming out on 1/11/11. Take that for what it's worth. :-/

Homme is Axl Rose 2.0 with his endless delays with stuff.

Lanegan should just take over QOTSA. No doubt it too would turn to gold.

I like all three bands I have seen qotsa 3 times, melvins 2 times and high on fire 5 times. They are all really good live. I would say queens is probably the best of the three live. High on fire and melvins do kill it though. I think I would lean towards hof and melvins because it is two killer bands and if. Matt pike comes out and jams a song with the melvins that would be so fucking killer.

The only band of these three I have seen is High On Fire and I must resonate your statements... they kick huge ass. Matt Pike is a beast on stage and can really play his instrument well. Great metal band, for sure.

Re: S/T remaster. I saw a tweet from ipecac records today that said the reissue had been cancelled on their end and that QOTSA/Rekords Rekords would have more info soon.
    Boo.
