Complete Sealed Vinyl Collection (a bit long)
In the mid-1990's, it looked like vinyl was going down fast. I don't think anyone expected there would still be any interest today, never mind a lot of new titles being released. I’m not a big fan of reissued titles, but understand that for a lot of people that’s the only way they can get a decent playable copy. I’ve always played vinyl, and still do. But, in the early 90’s I also started collecting sealed LP’s for groups that I thought might have some staying power.
This was with groups like Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Beck, Oasis, Foo Fighters, R.E.M. etc.
I have about 1,600 LP’s, all of them are entered into a database. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of things. Looking over the list the other day, I was surprised to discover that I have over 300 sealed LP’s. I might have got a bit carried away in the last decade or so.
In any event, I decided to put some of them on the market, but I’m not wild about using eBay; although I’m not discounting it as an option. Some are simply one off’s, like Fleet Foxes or Vampire Weekend, and although I do have the CD’s I can open the LP’s and spin the vinyl for that better sound. In fact, the record store where I bought most of the LP’s is buying back a bunch of the Clapton, Beatles and Mobile Fidelity titles that I had for no good reason other than they were sealed.
But, I hate to do that will collections that took a long time to put together, such as with Pearl Jam. So, here it is. A complete sealed vinyl collection of everything that’s been released. All of the albums were bought by me personally from legitimate dealers, other than Benaroya Hall and Live at Soldier Field that came from eBay.
I had to delete some of the columns to get it all to fit, but if anyone is interested I can email a spreadsheet with the full details. All of the albums are USA originals, with the exception of the Ten basketball picture disc from the UK, the Ten reissue basketball picture disc from Brazil, and the Amongst the Waves EP from the UK.
I would welcome any thoughts or opinions on the best way of finding another home for these. I am reluctant to break up the set, assuming that the whole may be worth more than the sum of the parts to the right person.

You'd be able to get rid of both of those in about 3.5 seconds on here if you were willing to sell them separately.

No issues with the man's talent, but.....
I wonder sometimes if the problem may be that I only listen to music, I don't watch it. I have noticed that a lot of groups have great videos, and maybe that's why they sell well.

Maybe it would help if I had given a price, I think that $2,100 for the lot, not including shipping is more than fair. This is based on my cost. As I mentioned, I bought all of the albums when they first came out at market price, but had to buy Benaroya Hall, Live at Soldier Field and Into the Wild at eBay prices, which is where about half of the total cost is.
I'm not looking for early retirement on this. I just thought someone might like the opportunity to pick up the entire collection without having to spend a fortune.

It's a fair price but people just got past spending big money on christmas and are looking to spend big money on this destination bash coming up.
It would sell faster if you sold them individually though. I'm interested in Yield and Avocado only because the jackets I have have marks on them and I am framing the record jackets and want mint copies of these.
Let me know if you change your mind.

That being said, I did send a second sealed copy of Avocado at no charge to a fellow club member who was desperate for it but couldn't afford to buy it on eBay. And, before you ask, no, I don't have any other duplicates that I can give away.
I've had the Pearl Jam albums for (you guessed it) going back 20 years. I have Live on Ten Legs standard and Special Deluxe ordered, and that will keep the collection up to date. Mind you, that will also increase the total asking price by the cost of the albums and shipping.
However, I remain convinced that, for a collector, the whole is worth more than the sum of the parts, particularly for a Pearl Jam fan.
Interestingly enough, all of the PM’s that I’ve received asking about any other albums were from members who were interested in complete sealed sets.
I have sealed sets for Beck, Dandy Warhols, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Oasis, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and a bunch of others that are not complete, such as U2 where a couple are missing and I can’t be bothered finding them. I have some more recent groups like The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, etc. but that’s with a few titles each, not what you would call a “collection”.
Fifty albums have been sold back to the record shop where I bought them, those were mostly Beatles and Mobile Fidelity titles, stuff that I guess he’s confident of being able to sell for a profit. If anything, I either broke even or made a couple of bucks.
As I’ve mentioned to some of the PM’s, it’s not about trying to make a quick buck, as far as an investment goes it’s not a good one. I bought a bunch of LP’s, kept them sealed for no good reason and thought someone might be interested.
At the end of the day, if I don’t get any serious offers, I can list them on eBay, or open them and play them. Or, wait for another 5 years…..
Stephen
good luck to your sale

Good point! I hadn't considered that. I need to think about this a bit more for a couple of days.....
I'll be out of town and off the 'net until next week, maybe sort through all of this then. I haven't been counting, but I think close to all of them have been asked about.
Stephen
thanks

I'm going to shutdown my option to receive PM's for a while. I have a serious buyer for the entire collection of sealed LP's. There's been a tremendous amount of interest in the purchase of one or two selected titles, but as mentioned before I'm reluctant to break up the set.
Yes, I realize that I could sell them one by one on eBay or even here and likely make a bit more money, but as long as my break even point is met, I'm OK with that.....
Thanks!
Stephen
