So far 2011 is looking to be a better year than 2010 for me. LO10L in a couple weeks, The Strokes in March, Foo Fighters in the spring, Radiohead, U2, and maybe the White Strips. Can't wait for this Strokes album.

The Strokes' Fourth Album Due in March
By Kevin O'Donnell on January 5, 2011 8:37 AM

It's been five years since the Strokes released their last album First Impressions of Earth, but the New York quintet have confirmed that they'll drop their fourth record in March. The still-untitled release is in the mixing stage.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture revealed in an interview with the BBC that the new LP will have a "classic sound" similar to the group's second and third releases. "Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth," he said.

The record may recall their past work, but Fraiture said the creative process was different this time around, with singer Julian Casablancas recording his vocals separately from the band. "Usually, we're always in a room and changing stuff and doing it all together," he said. "It's all a learning experience."

The quintet recently played an exclusive show for New York's Fashion Week and headlined this summer's Lollapalooza.

They'll hit the road for a massive tour in support of the album. Fraiture said the group is currently plotting dates "around the world." So far they've announced headlining slots at festivals like Spain's Benicàssim in July and Japan's Summer Sonic 2011 in August.

The Strokes look set to release their new album on March 22 in the US - according to a leaked memo from their US record label.

Music blog Directcurrentmusic.com reports that a release schedule from their label, RCA, lists the New York band's forthcoming fourth record as being released on that date. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture recently said the album would be released "by March".

The band's UK spokesperson told NME that a UK release date had not been set yet.

The as-yet untitled 10-song follow-up to 2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth' was produced by the band in guitarist Albert Hammond Jr's upstate New York studio after initial sessions with producer Joe Chiccarelli were scrapped.

The Strokes have tentatively named their forthcoming fourth album 'Angles' and set a UK release date of March 21.

The record's lead single is likely to be named 'Under Cover Of Darkness'.

The band gave the album information to Rolling Stone magazine, also revealing further song titles 'Taken For A Fool', 'Life Is Simple', 'Machu Picchu', 'Radio Minor Madness' and 'Call Me Back'.

Guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. explained the album title by saying: "It's what the record sounds like. It comes from five different people."

'Life Is Simple' is the only song that survived from sessions the band recorded with producer Joe Chiccarelli before deciding to record in Hammond Jr's own studio, taking on production duties themselves.

Hammond Jr said that, after the album was out, he was hoping the band wouldn't wait another five years before releasing their next effort. "We want to release albums quicker," he explained.

The new record will be their first since 2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth'.

Guitarist Nick Valensi added: "I don't want to make an album every five years. I love being in this band and I want it to be a career thing."
