2010? How did it treat you?

  • Not bad. Bought a new place with my hubby...started a new program at work that is going really well...private practice is crazy busy...realized I spent most of the year exhausted and plan to work a little less and play a little more in 2011, although I'm pretty sure that was my new year's resolution for the past 2 years so we'll see how that goes

2010 has been possibly one of the most boring, hard, mixed up year of my life so far. As far as me personally, I've found out some harsh truths, the way of the world, what matters to me in life, how i can get the most of these shitty years that are to come, being in school etc.etc.

On the plus side, I became a proper fan of PJ, discovered a huge chunk of their music earlier on in the year/end of last year and discovered a whole bunch of other amazing musicians

    oh yeah, and i joined 10c :D

It was the best of times it was the worst of times kind of year.

Lost two people very near and dear to me in the last 6 weeks. Have had some serious medical issues and my insurance company refuses to pay for much needed treatment because they are cheap bastards and the doctors are shareholders. So I'm fighting them. My boss has gone psycho and has made work miserable in many ways. I would quit, but I need my medical insurance so I'm stuck in a catch 22.

However, I've been able to travel a bunch and see friends and family more this year than ever. My nephew started talking and calls me Auntie Rye. Every time I hear it it melts my heart. Coolest thing ever. I learned to flyfish in Montana. I lost count of the concerts and festivals I went to this year, and I have seen many of my faves: PJ, Neil Young, Levon Helm, Elton John and Leon Russell, Buffalo fucking Springfield, My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Snoop, Tribe, Wu-Tang, My Morning Jacket, Social distortion, Kings of Leon, Ray LaMontagne, Band of Horses, Dr. Dog, Gogol Bordello, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Matisyahu, Lettuce, Trombone Shorty, Patti Smith, Randy Newman, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Heart, The Bangles, Phoenix, Temper Trap and the list goes on... Amazing. And I'm doing it again in 2011. 8-) Pretty Awesome. And the Giants won the World Series. :D

    Cheers to 2011.

  • I'm glad 2010 is over.
  • I dunno, every year has its good and bad points, so it's hard to ever say a year was stellar or dismal.

Could have been better, but could also have been a helluva lot worse!

I'm a little anxious about the new year, I hope it will be okay. Hope it treats everyone kindly too!
  • Actually better than I thought it would financially with the pick-up of a few more income sources and definitely better than the treatment my block got from the NY Department of Sanitation. Maybe in 2011, I can get that personal aspect of my life in order with someone worth getting it in order with.

This has been one of the most insane years of my life...husband had surgery and we've been struggling with medical bills ever since, two mentors of mine died suddenly and unexpectedly, I got back in touch with a friend I haven't spoken with in 3 years, I had a ridiculously busy time at work and things are just now settling down to some semblance of "normal".
After this, I'm a little wary of what 2011 will bring. :?

Can't complain that's for sure! Had some highs and some lows but that's expected. Overall, I'd say it was great! :) I think 2011 with have even greater highs, but greater lows which are tougher to deal with. :( Such is life! :) Still mad I missed you at Bridge though!

2010 was meh, nothing spectacular or bad happened. Went and saw some great concerts/movies. Introduced to some new music and some new friends. Sister got married. Philly teams did ok for the most part. Friends, family, cats and myself were relatively healthy.

    New Job...
Moved from Phoenix to San Diego...
Saw Pearl Jam in May - Night 2 @ MSG and scored the poster in chaos...
My 3 year old son has been sung asleep to Just Breathe every nite and knows every lyric...
My 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter have each asked for many PJ tunes to be slapped into their iTouchs...
Proudly celebrated 12 years of marriage this year...
    All parents/kids/nephews, etc...healthy going into 2010
Most importantly, learned and lived an attitude of gratitude with passion this year.

Pretty damn good year - it treated me and those I love well...all ya can ask for, right?

Bonus - kick ass margaritas, carne asada and homemade green salsa 2nite to ring in 2011

  • After this year, I've developed a superstition about how I spend NYE - that one about how it dictates what you will do in the new year.

Last year I partied it up with my sister (that part was rad) and some of her friends (that part was not so rad) at a suburban barfly establishment.

Now, I had some really fucking fantastic times this year, but mostly I was in a rut and kept ending up in bad company. For six months, part of that company was my roommate.

Tonight I'll be hanging with a cat and a dog, eating some yummy healthy foods and doing anything that feels inspiring.

The bad parts of 2010 can go fuck themselves.

I'm gonna celebrate the good parts, which include:

    Seeing Pearl Jam at MSG
Getting to see some really lovely people while in NYC
Seeing Ralph Nader two days in row - One event was a dinner with just 40 other people.
Getting to hang out more with a fantastic woman who is becoming a great friend.
The Dead Weather at the Capitol Hill Block Party was absolutely was fantastic. I'm glad the crowd was rough.
Winning a cruiser bicycle from New Belgium Brewery.
Ending up about 20 feet away from a mama bear and her cubs on a trail was awe inspiring.
My mom finally snapped out of a decade of bitterness. She is more alive than she has been in ages. Love it.
Going to the Dandy Warhols on my birthday. I want to spend all of my future birthdays at concerts.
    I carried a watermelon
