    Winters bone. See it

    excellent film ...

nothing really stood out as exceptional for me like in the past two years ... but movies that i liked a lot are:

the aforementioned winters bone; true grit; scott pilgrim; despicable me; how to train a dragon

I agree, it's been a bit lacking. I'll be glad when Harry Potter is over, keep it going any longer and the kids will be grandparents.

I can't say I'm particularly enthralled by future releases over here which are always behind the US. I'll see True Grit and I might give The Adjustment Bureau a viewing but nothing else stands out.

this i find is generally the best time for movies as many films wanting to be considered for awards get released ... some films i'm looking forward to are blue valentine and somewhere ...

I'm excited to see blue valentine and somewhere too. I think the Tree of Life is coming out in March? I hope so that looks good too.

The Men Who Stare At Goats was a good one. George Clooney, Ewen MacGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey are all great in it.
  • if "the king's speech" counts for 2010 then that wins

    hell, give it 2011 too

  • My list is actually a little longer than just ten this year. 2009 had three movies that blew me away, Iglorious Basterds,Star Trek and Up in the Air, but alot of meh. 2010 didn't have anything as powerful for me as those three, but I thought the overall quality in '10 was better.I've got 14 on my list. The top 5 are in order of what I thought was best, 6-14 are sort of tied in quality. Most of the blockbusters sucked this year, except Toy Story and Harry Potter. Even Harry Potter was just decent, not nearly as good as the other David Yates directed installments. My list might change, I still have to see Blue Valentine, Somewhere and Micmacs. I also have to rewatch The Social Network, when we saw it I wasn't feeling great and there were a bunch of old people talking, so once I get those taken care of, I might revise. Here it is:

    1) 127 Hours
    2) Winter's Bone
    3) Black Swan
    4) The King's Speech
    5) Toy Story 3
    6) Inception
    7) The American
    8) The Town
    9) True Grit
    10) The Kids Are All Right
    11)Get Low
    12)The Fighter
13)The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
    14) Kick Ass

Saw 127 Hours last night. Very good and not as graphic as I had expected since everyone made it out to be sickening. Does not beat Winters Bone in my book but was very good.

Did anyone see The King's Speech? I don't quite think it's a movie that I would particularly enjoy but apparently it's very good.

Really want to see it. Was between that and 127 Hours last night and saw 127 Hours because of timing. Definitely looking forward to seeing this.

I reckon Temple Grandin was the best movie I saw, pretty sure that was 2010?? :D I never liked Claire Danes but thought she was amazing in that.

Haha, I may. Just looked up pictures from the movie and let's just say, the attire is fantastic...

Ha, exactly what I was talking about....

But going forward if I ask you your opinion, or critique, on some kind of local bar, food, etc., and it's not that great, I want you to say, "it ain't no Winter's Bone."
