    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

  • I agree with the comment on YT, the best song off his new album. I love Neil, but to think of Eddie's voice sliding over those lyrics... ah :) Nice post!
  • Neil Young has lost his talent in writing lyrics.
That record is so cheesy when it comes to the writing.

Too bad Avocado & Backspacer sort of moved into the same direction...

Backspacer is a pop album, so the lyrics are going to be cheesier and lighter hearted.

I have to totally disagree on Avocado. It's some of their best lyrics. Inside Job might be a little cheesy, but Mike wrote it. Between Avocado and Into The Wild, Ed is at the top of his game.

are you kidding me? neil young's writing hasn't lost a step. I've got everything he's done over the past 10 years and the only album i really am not a huge fan of is fork in the road....aside from that i'd have to go back to the 80's for some bad neil. His lyrics are just as poetic and gritty as they've ever been, hitchhiker, walk with me, and love and war are 3 really great examples imo.
  • long may you run is a way better song ;)

so is almost all of Living With War
  • I respect him as a person...he's a cool guy and all...but his singing inspires me to wanna be an axe murderer!!

makes me wonder how many people around here ride his jock just because Ed likes him.

Loved that album *Living With War*. I listened to it on my computer repeatedly for weeks on end.

Agreed. Neil's got a handful of classics but I cant stand his voice. There's a handful of artists that I know ooze talent, but I cant get past the vocals. My loss, I guess.

I love Neil's music. New & old & I'm so thankful to Ed/PJ for bringing me back to it. I hadn't listened so much for the last few years but have got back into it after being reminded about it after being back into PJ since the concert here last year. :)

    great song and great album.

I'm a big Neil fan, so I really have enjoyed many albums he has put out.

Out of the albums of his I own, "Are you Passionate" is good but a little long winded- seems to kind of go on too long in the songs. Still a decent album though.

As for liking a vocalists' voice- I always say it's an aquired taste, but I know what you mean. I don't have a problem with Neil's voice but totally understand the opinions on vocals. Happens to everyone.

For the Record Hitchhiker was written at least 15 years ago if not 20.

    But I’m just being a prick .... sorry :?

I like the new album and the lyrics on it for the most part. Neil has always had some slightly awkward moments in his lyrics on albums dating back to the beginning. I find that many of his songs now a days a just GOOD so those moments stand out a little more as compared to when he had a couple on older albums surrounded by GREAT songs.

He makes GREAT songs far too infrequantly these days, but I am not knocking him i think that is to be expected.

Le Noise?? I'm all for self indulgence, but this is just over the line.

As far as NY goes overall. Yeah, of course his best years are long behind him but that doesn't mean what he's doin now has any less meaning. You gotta give him some props for still puttin it out there.

The album is titled Le Noise because a producer/ friend of Neil's passed away last year; around the time this record was being made. I mean Pearl jam named their last album after a sea turtle they saved or rescued.

If you already knew that info, I apologize, for the redundantcy. Just wanted to speculate what the album titled stood- for for those that might not know the connection. I learned it on this board myself.

Again just speculating for anyone that didn't know, not being a douche or anything so please don't take it that way. All is well. :D

Gotta agree here. I give Neil major props for having such a prolific career and staying strong through his low points... he does have some dud albums, but shouldn't that be expected when you're cranking out album after album for 30+ years?

Le Noise is one of the best sounding albums in recent history. The blu-ray version just came out. Imagine listening to it in 5.1!
