Just starting to get into them. Got 'Elephant' for Christmas and I like it a lot, it's great.
I'm sure there are other fans on here, so I was wondering what are the next 1-2 records I should check out? Was thinking White Blood Cells as it's the only other one with songs that I know I like. Not too familiar with any material from the other 4.
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Jack White is a genius.

My favorite too. Don't know that I'd necessarily recommend as a starter type of album. It's pretty different from the rest of their stuff, with all the marimba and piano. Still very Stripes-y though and I suppose it did make me appreciate the rest of their material.

The 1st record(self-titled) is really raw and bluesy with alot of great short songs. It's becoming my fave.
The 2nd is probably my fave! But they all keep growing and covering different sounds.
The other 2 bands are great also The Racontuers for a full band blues rock and The Dead Weather for a unique and incredible sound.
death letter is my favorite song along with little bird
get behind me satan, for me at least, was the hardest to get into. once you do however, it's mesmerizing.
white blood cells is a classic, as is elephant.
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.
You can't really go wrong with any stripes album. I don't like the self titled one that much, it's definitely their rawest album although Suzy Lee" off that album and "wasting my time" are incredible!
I rank them like this: (Hard to do cause they are all pretty solid).
De stijl
Elephant
Get Behind Me Satan
Icky thump
White Blood cells
The white stripes.
"White blood cells" isn't bad, just had to place it somewhere.
Also they have a couple of dvd's out "Under black pool lights" is a must have. The other one " Under Great White Northern Lights" is more of a tour montage, and songs were filmed in different cities, it's more of a documentary style set up- also very good.
The cover of "Jolene" (Dolly Parton) on "Under Black Pool Lights" is sick. Great, Great song.

+1
White Blood Cells is one of my favourites from them, but I love all their stuff. It's probably easiest, and most logical, to start at the beginning though
I picked up De Stijl today. After only 1-2 listens, I can already tell it's a great album. Not sure yet if it'll top Elephant for me though.
So that leaves White Stripes, White Blood Cells, Get Behind Me Satan & Icky Thump to get. After that think I will pick up the new live one and then probably Raconteurs and Dead Weather stuff.
Skip the live album and just snag a couple bootlegs. Don't forget about the dvds. THey're both pretty epic.
And are the Raconteurs and Dead Weather albums worth getting?

It's a tie for favorite for me between them all!
Dead Weather- These are good albums but I think Dead Weather are far better live.
Horehound- took me awhile to get into, but it is a good album.
Sea of Cowards- was a more accessible album I thought. It just took me less time to get into it. I had just seen Dead weather for the 2nd time days before it's release, so maybe that's why.
For the Stripes albums and what you have left to get, It's really up to you, they are all good, but depends on what you like cause the band progressed with every album musically.
If you want like a raw Garage type rock sound- I'd say get self titled or white blood cells next. (Took me a long time to get into self titled- still my least fave but not terrible).
GBMS and Icky thump have some more experimental elements on them. like xylophones, bagpipes piano, marambas, maraccas, are used. They are extremely good, but are leaning more towards a different direction then say the other two- you have to get.
I really recommend the dvd Under Black Pool lights- it's incredible. Makes me really hope to see the Stripes live one day.
Hope this helps.

'The Nurse' might be my new favorite song ever.

Dunno what took me so long to get into them but I can't stop listening to them now. I think they're my new favorite, right up there with Pearl Jam, seriously. I only have De Stijl, Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan but I love all of them, and I've heard songs from the other records. I can't get over how good they are.
Icky Thump is their most recent and it's been (going on) 4 years now so it's been awhile but I've heard Jack White recently hinted at a reunion. Hoping this happens! Kinda broke right now but will be picking up White Stripes, White Blood Cells and Icky Thump as soon as possible. Then I suppose it'll be onto Raconteurs and Dead Weather, both of which I've heard nothing but good things about.
Completely agree here. I've been calling it progressive blues. Not sure if this is a term or not, but you can hear the evolution throughout their albums. Start early.
Dead Weather - fantastic
Raconteurs - not bad, definitely a different direction (which I can appreciate)
