I think they sound great above drumsets (overheads, especially on crash cymbals), and I've had good luck on some acoustic guitars (although usually mixed with my Blue Baby Bottle in stereo). Otherwise, I've been less than impressed. It has some weird upper-mid frequency presence thing that I don't care for on vocals, and I think it sounds kinda muddy on electric guitar. I know other folks love it, so I can't knock it too hard, and I also own 2 (mostly for the drumkit purpose).

For the money, I've been more impressed with a number of the MXL condensers.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • Thanks for the heads up
Are you talking about the MXL990
I'm just recordind aucostic guitar, mandoline and vocals
    Cheers

I really like the V63 model, which is one of their cheaper mics. It just has a warmth of character that I really like. But I've yet to be disappointed in any of their mics.

I've had two over the years. (Sold one, bought another and kept that one)
