My Wedding Playlist!

Friends... need some thoughts on my playlist. I am getting married in July, but wanted to get your suggestions! Keep in mind, these are not all PJ song - but tell the story.

Bridal Party Song - In My Life - The Beatles
My Song - In the Wind - Cat Stevens (open for your suggestions on this one!)
You May Kiss the Bride - I can't help falling in love - PJ Version
First Dance - Better Together - Jack Johnson
My Brother/Sister Dance - Sitting on the Dock of the Bay - PJ Version
Final Song - Yellow Led Better

Here is the thing, I think the song I come down to needs some work. On the bright side, my brother who is not a PJ fan suggested Sitting on the Dock of the Bay - which is so us.

I appreciate everyones suggestions on this!

Cheers - K
I just keep moving on....

The Beatles one is perfect. It could also be a perfect one for the first dance.

I love that you're thinking to have Ledbetter as the final song. I mean it's obvious of course but cool. :D

Even though I'm a guy, I've been thinking for YEARS about how I could incorporate some PJ songs into my eventual wedding! LOL Of course a lot of that is dependent on the woman I marry, and I don't even have a damn girl friend right now!

I'd really like to have Thin Air played as our 1st Dance song. It strikes me as something you can dance to and definitely is a good love song. Not to mention this whole lyric as a good "wedding vows" kind of feeling to it:

"t's not in my past to presume...
Love can keep on moving,... in both directions...
How to be happy and true...
Is the quest we're taking on together..."

I'd also like to throw in Long Road someplace because it communicates the idea of continuing on a journey together.

Just Breathe has a great message and the right kind of sound to it too.

As for my "B List" of songs I'd think about strictly if I could "get away" with adding them to the play list:

Parachutes wouldn't be a bad one, but at times even I honestly kind of lose track of where the song is going because of the way that the song is sung. It sounds pretty and some of the lyrics relate too, but I could see a lot of people standing there thinking "Huh? What the hell is this?"

I'd also think about throwing in the pre-MFC warm up "Untitled" in because I love the whole message of "starting a new life" and the "With you I could never be alone" lyric.

    Love these suggestions.

Agree with the above poster _ "Thin Air" is beautiful, too.

I don't know the Cat Stevens song you're referencing, will have to listen to that one.

About a week ago I was listening to a late-night Boston radio show. One of the callers was asked what song he and his wife selected for their first dance. He said, "Pearl Jam, Black."

    I went

    :?: Black :?:

Great, great song, but kind of, um, a downer, isn't it?

  • I LOVE smile but thinking of the lyrics I'm not sure I see it as really a wedding song. Some really wonderful choices; someday I will do a PJ wedding, too! Great choice for your siblings; I love when Eddie does Otis Redding... Such a sultry sound. You've got enough time to perfect your playlist, just keep the XM PJ station on for a few samples :) Congratulations on your marriage!

When I got married, our last dance at the reception was "Around The Bend". I still grin from ear to ear whenever I watch that part of the wedding video.

I agree w/ you on Smile, not sure if it is a good wedding song.....It may be just how I interpret it, but not a wedding song in my eyes.

When I got married in August, I picked the songlist and had Ledbetter as the final song. DJ played it as the final song but then put a Counting Crowes song on after. I weren't best pleased so I had him put Rearviewmirror on to officially end the night :)

We did YL for the last song as well. First dance was Thank You (Chris Cornell) and Harvest Moon (PJ) with full bridal party. We also played several other cool songs throughout the evening, including Leavin Here (PJ) during the bouquet toss. Better Together is on our wedding bluray along with a few others...

Good Luck with your planning! It will be here and gone before you know it ;)
  • I have always loved U2 from Rattle and Hum...last song "All I want is you"...it came out after I got married! It is one of the most beautiful songs, you must listen!!!

Awesome Awesome… Thanks everyone… These are great! I still have a lot of time to think about this. Nonetheless this is probably one of the most important pieces of the whole day. Hell I saw the dress, tried it on, and bought it that day. I am still stuck on the song that I get walked down the aisle to. I am not sure if it is a Pearl Jam song or something else out there… So keep the suggestions coming – I have 7 months!

Also, Queen’s – You make me live is rad – thanks for that!!

    Thanks again!

    Hi All,

So, the wedding and honeymoon are done and now just reflecting on the day! Well, the playlist turned out amazing - went as follows:

    Prior to Ceremony
    - EV - Throw your arms around me
    - Ben Harper – Forever
    - Jack Johnson – Angel
    - Led Zeppelin – Hey Hey What can I do
    - Pearl Jam – Amongst the waves
    - Foo Fighters – Everlong (Live)

Bridal Party Entrance – Beatles - In my life

Bride Entrance – Vitamin String Quartet – Sweet Child of Mine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnwxXNfdsxU)

Man and Wife – Pearl Jam – Can’t help falling in love w/ you

Announcement of Wedding Party – Beastie Boys – Fight for your right to party!

Brother/Sister Dance – PJ – Dock of the Bay

Last Song of the night – PJ – Yellow Ledbetter

Our DJ nailed it and everyone complemented the playlist. It was rad! So when everyone ask me the best part of the day, I would have to say at the end of the night. The DJ announced that it was the last song, and Yellow Ledbetter came on. All the guest came around us and starting singing and lighting their sparklers for the grand exit. It was amazing!

Below is the slideshow - I hope you enjoy! It was probably the best day of my life!

That is a great final playlist and very happy your day went so well. It makes me remember mine.

I got married some 13 years ago but the three songs I rememebr most that we had at our wedding were:

    1) First Dance as a maried couple: Night Swimming - R.E.M

    2) Full Wedding Party Dance (right after our first dance): Elderly Woman - PJ

    3) Somewhere in the middle of the dance being in full swing we had the DJ play Corduroy and everyone was on the dance floor and they went nuts just jumping around and dancing and whatever. Somebody had the foresight to take a picture up n a chair with one of our disposable cameras and we got the picture back and I could tell it was of when they played Corduroy and the whole place looks like a mosh pit of fun.

Wedding day was one of the funnest best days of my life to this day. Only thing better was birth of my kids but also in a differnt way. Just pure "fun" my wedding day/reception...
