Knockin on Heavens Door...

Bob Dylan's version is the original version and is quite emotional and raw
But, Guns N Roses' version rocks

Had this debate with a few mates...some think Bob Dylan's version is best and others think GNR do it better

Personally I'd prefer Bob Dylan's Version but I'm curious to know other 10C members' thoughts are

Cheers

  • Dylan....... NO CONTEST!
  • The GN'R version is good, except for the 'Hey, hey, hey hey yeah'... And the stupid phone call. Why was that necessary?
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

I thought this was a thread comparing the two.

Dylan's version. I agree with keeponrockin about that middle thing and phone call in GNR's version. That ruined it.

    agreed completely.

in 1990 or 91 or so, before the use your illusion records came out, a local radio station here played a live version of the g n r version from japan incessantly that i thought was just awesome. then i heard the album version and was like "Really?? WTF was that???"

dylan's version is better hands down IMO..

GnR's is better, but the phone call part pulls them even.

    What about Clapton's?

Dylan. No question. I can't stand GNR's version.

Bob's version, especially with the movie it was written for, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid. The whole album was great, the themes etc.

(It was hard to find the original movie theme, there are so many covers out there!)

As legendary as GnR are, I'm betting the band doing the cover will never be considered superior to the original by a majority of people, esp when the original is by an even more legendary performer.

I'm going against the grain here and picking GNR. Aside from the phone call, their version is superior, in my opinion.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
