The parade of weirdos comes marching through
on it's own schedule
and I no longer care
worn out, seen-em-all
I no longer care about the spectacle
even when the King of the Line shows up in his lopsided crown
it's no longer a surprise
it's just more of the same
one more cut in my death from a thousand cuts
one more tiny scar that won't kill me
No one likes the resident historian
for that one knows too much
and it makes the schemers worried
for they project what they might do with so much knowledge
and it eats at them that the pile is building up, untapped
but the historian is just a curious observer
trying to figure it all out
taking notes on patterns, cycles, predictable failures,
and wondering about the true slowness of evolution
holding on to my own vision of being a loyal friend
I wonder how I got this solitary job of storing the information
I promised I'd never use or publish
on it's own schedule
