Grant Lee Buffalo

The mighty Grant Lee Buffalo are reforming. For a limited time, by the sounds of it. Grant-Lee Phillips, at his recent Dublin show, said: "if we don't kill each other", and the list of gigs is short and sweet, so I think this might be a limited run of shows. I couldn't go to the London show originally, as it was in January, but Grant-Lee Phillips ruptured his Achilles Tendon and the show has been pushed back until May, so I can go now. Managed to get a pair of Row K floor seats. Colour me delighted.
A hugely influential band, 10 years before their time. All those 'alt-country' bands, like Wilco, for example, could never have existed without the mighty Buffalo roaming first. "Fuzzy" and "Mighty Joe Moon" were the biggest albums of the four. I think they fucked up following up "Mighty Joe Moon" with the too-folky "Copperopolis". "Jubilee" was a drastic return to form, however. Go and check out the first two LP's, you might be suprised by how many songs you've heard off of them without knowing who the artist is.
This has the potential to be a fabulous reunion, for however long it may last.

No problem. There's no Houston show scheduled that I'm aware of, unfortunately. Grant-Lee Phillips occassionally plays your favourite song live, but not every night by any means. I'd imagine it'd potentially be one of the songs up for discussion for the reunion. There's other great songs on that LP, too. If you feel the desire, go back and listen to the first song, even, "Lone Star Song" that's one of the best ones. "Mockingbirds" was a minor hit, too.
This is probably going to make people hate him before they've even heard him, but Grant-Lee Phillips is also the 'Town Troubadore' on the TV show The Gilmore Girls!
To the second poster:
"Truly, Truly" is great, too. Where did you hear it? That's on Jubilee. The songs "APB" and, more importantly, "Testimony" are also from that album, so if you own it, start with them and go from there.
I'd recommend buying Mighty Joe Moon and Fuzzy and going from there, if you like what you hear. Although, there's some Copperopolis songs, like "Bethlehem Steel", "Two and Two" and "Arousing Thunder" that you might dig more, as they're a bit more in the vein of "Truly, Truly".

Where are you living? I'm in Dublin, but my girlfriend lives in Malmo, so I over there a lot! Grant-Lee Phillips usually plays where he has a following-and he is quite popular 'round your way...particularly Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
If you have not seen him solo yet, please do not see him on the tour billed as "Grant-Lee Phillips and Howe Gelb".
Howe is weird and they do much of the show together. And not enough of it is Grant's material.
Wait until it's billed as a Grant gig or Grant Lee Buffalo reunion gig.
But keep an eye out for dates. You've missed him lots of times in Scandanavia!
