Me and my best friend ordered up some tickets to POSSIBLY the last Bright Eyes tour EVER!!! Tho i have been fortunate enough to catch Bright Eyes play a show in Omaha this last summer, with the Desaparecidos, and got to see the Conor Obersts Mystic Valley Band last year, its still a little disappointing to know that Conor my never tour again. The Bob Dylan of my time. But im very excited for March 21st to come around!

I just realized this post had NOTHING to do with the album! hahaha, i MENT to say Tour. Oh well!
  • I'm interested to hear it. I don't think he's the 'Bob Dylan of my generation' (I'm 19) but I'm not quite sure we have one. Bob Dylan was great not only because he was so literate, but because he had range. He could write about love, heartbreak, politics, drugs, true stories, and then put them all together in something like 'Desolation Row'.

But I do enjoy Bright Eyes :)
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

So did Connor come out and say he's done?
  • since 2007 he had said that the next bright eyes album would be his last, and thats the one thats coming out in a month or two. I dont think he is retiring. I cant picture conor not ever releasing music again, but he just wont be doing it under the bright eyes name anymore or making music with Mike Mogis. Im interested to hear the new album because the last couple he's gone the more alt-country/folk route, and from the man himself he says the new one is a new direction.

I personally think conor is one of the most talented lyricists of our generation. He;s at least in the top tier. He has a way of distilling the disillusionment one feels growing up and turning it into pure art and poetry.

    Take Four Winds

Your class, your caste, your country, sect, your name or your tribe
There's people always dying trying to keep them alive
There are bodies decomposing in containers tonight
    In an abandoned building where
    A squatter's made a mural of a Mexican girl
With fifteen cans of spray paint in a chemical swirl
She's standing in the ashes at the end of the world
Four winds blowing through her hair

But when great Satan's gone, the whore of Babylon
She just can't sustain the pressure where it's placed
    She caves

The Bible's blind, the Torah's deaf, the Qur'an is mute
If you burned them all together you'd be close to the truth still
They're poring over Sanskrit under Ivy League moons
While shadows lengthen in the sun
Cast on a school of meditation built to soften the times
And hold us at the center while the spiral unwinds
It's knocking over fences, crossing property lines
Four winds cry until it comes

Lets face it folks, in the day of Britney, and American Idol, this is basically Shakespeare and Dickens, it deserves all the praise it gets.
  • I was talking to a friend of Connor's in Omaha on the 2003 PJ tour. The PJ gig was in Council Bluffs, but we went out with Idlewild after, to a GREAT pub in Omaha called "The 49er"-ever been there? I'd highly recommend it!
    My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.
  • i also think although the album Conor Oberst and the latest one Mystic Valley sound different than a bright eyes album for sure, it was always pretty funny, Bright Eyes was essentially his project, solo project, and it was always viewed as such,

    he'll be performing forever.

i don't think this will be it for Bright Eyes either. Just a hunch

note to OP: He performs with Mike Mogis in Mosters of Folk as well. I'm pretty sure they've basically said there will be another MOF album also
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

He never said that this was the last album nor the last tour. He said he would still love to make music with these guys in some capacity but didn't know if it would be under the Bright Eyes name or not. You can guarantee their will be many other Conor outlets including Monsters of rock and Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band.

Conor has always considered Bright Eyes a "recording band", kind of the way the Beatles became. He said its hard to tour on these albums without having 15 people on stage to make the songs sound right. The new album is supposed to be more modernesque.

I will be at the Radio City Show(the first one that was announced).
