i am sorry to hear this about Phil. he was at his peak when i was a kid and i thought his songs were kind of cheesy at that age. but going back as an adult i realize that he has written some of the greatest songs about love and the loss of that love.
one more night

groovy kind of love
there is real pain in those lyrics that i never recognized until i was an adult.
not to mention the menacing sound of in the air tonight
"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
It was fashionable and a bit mentally lazy a few years ago to knock Phil on account of his Tory politics, his unrocking baldy bloke persona, his synthetic pop production style and the fact he turned John Martyn's music from as edgy as it gets to lacklustre MOR lounge in about three albums. Oh, and for Brand X cheese. And um, Genesis after about 1977. And that Buster movie. And that episode of Miami Vice. And playing shite on two continents at Live Aid. And divorcing one of his ex-wives by fax machine. But if you give me enough time and mental stimulation, I'm sure I'll come up with something good to say about him.
Well I dont have a lot of sympathy for depressed multi millionaires. Go see a shrink, buy a new sports car, eat a sandwich do some effing thing....
I thought the article was going to say, I went back and listened to "groovy kind of love" and I wanted to shoot myself.
In the early to mid eighties, this guy could do no wrong in my book. I love his work with Genesis, and his first three solo records.
Heck I even slept out for shows during the Abacab and no jacket required tours-and he delivered each time.
Somewhere along the line he became a sappy pop star. Face value, abacab and hello, I must be going still get regular play on my ipod though.

Er, um, hang on, I'm thinking .....
I read that article in Rolling Stone and I really felt sorry for him
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
