Just a tiny little complaint for the 10c about the Super duper version...

Just a thought...for $140, couldn't they have at least thrown in the 'Drop in the park' concert in cd format as well? Or give you an option when ordering? The Lp's in my set are just going to sit and collect dust.

you can always give the lps to me if you don't want them. I'll give you a copy of the show on CD.
  • I have a feeling that it will be offered as a digital download after the initial release.

I sure hope so. I've thought to myself for years that the x-mas singles should have come with even a burned cd as well.

I agree...I don't own a record player...was hoping Drop in the Park would be on CD instead.

  • doesnt seem like this set is at all worth it for the people that dont plan on spinning the vinyl... i know im not getting it for the stickers, notebook, and photos... the whole point is the music people! dont get it if the formats not what you want

besides... just get a turntable... CDs are useless now that ipods exist but i still prefer to have something to open/hold and the superior sound of vinyl

I would like to spend my first post in this new forum saying that sgossard3 is 100% correct.

The notebook, photos and cassette are "neat" but there is no way I would have bought this thing if it was a bunch of CD's instead of vinyl.

Why is anybody buying this if they don't plan on spinning the vinyl?!

I will spend my first post saying I don't yet own a turntable but was hoping for one for Xmas... I bought it just to have it. Same reason I buy all the other PJ merchandise released.
    PJ FANS ROCK!!!

Finally got that "One for the Thumb"!!! Got the "Six Pack". Now we're on a "Stairway to Seven"

I still listen to cds heaps, especially in my car, even though I have an ipod so I dont agree that they're valueless, digital downloads are not nearly as much fun, imo, some of us are still old fashioned.

I would like to add a further comment and say it's time they dispensed with the idea of vinyls for "Christmas single" why dont they just make it a cd or digital download, people shouldn't have to go to the trouble of buying sterios for Christmas singles.

I'll politely disagree with this idea.

I think the whole thing with PJ doing vinyl singles for the fan club is that they wanted to do something unique for their fans at the same time as doing something nostalgic for them (and perhaps themselves). Releasing vinyl 7" records was already becoming rare when they started in 1991. Certainly the number of people with working record players has not increased since they started doing this so the uniqueness of the act takes on more and more meaning over time.

In many ways, Pearl Jam's charter has been that they want to challenge their fans: Challenge them to think about the effects establishment has on the prices they pay for a concert ticket (Ticketmaster), challenge them to listen to music instead of watching videos (MTV boycott), challenge them to value the quality of their song writing as they have intentionally produced less commercial songs (radio plays of songs from Ten vs. each subsequent album), etc... Continuing to release vinyl 7" records challenges new members of the fan club to adopt an older format which they are unfamiliar with. I think it's important to note though that the payoff for adopting this format(vinyl) is that it opens up a whole new world of experience when it comes to listening to music if you haven't done it before. Ultimately, it may not be for everyone but it really is worth trying. You can pause an mp3 or cd any time you want, but odds are you'll sit and listen to an entire song once you lower the stylus.

Out of consideration to fans that don't have the ability to pick up a record player just to listen to two songs a year the ideas of doing a digital download or cd could be good alternatives, but I for one hope that the band that wrote "Spin The Black Circle" does not stop releasing vinyl for the fan club. It's another example of how the band differentiates their fan club from those of other bands. Personally I wait all year for the fan club single and relish it when it comes.

    Just my two cents.

I will definitely be playing the Drop vinyl as soon as I get it!

I can never understand why people buy vinyl and don't listen to it - either buy a turntable or don't buy the vinyl!

Some of you are still old fashioned and still listen to....CD's? That is funny in itself...considering vinyl is an older format.

People that are complaining about vinyl do not understand the history of the band. I remember when Vitalogy came out 2 weeks earlier on vinyl than on CD/cassette...So why are people surprised at this?
  • Most of you are COMPLETELY missing my point. I give the band a lot of credit for continuing to release things on vinyl. I don't have a problem with it AT ALL. The vinyl will be a nice addition to my PJ collection, but it will go COMPLETELY unused. My point is that they are FINALLY making one of their most famous shows available for the first time & they can't throw in a disc of the show in the $140 set!!?? That's just plain stupid. The album 'Ten' itself is coming in both formats, The MTV unplugged is coming on DVD not a freakin VHS tape! It's like Steven Spielberg or George Lucas making you go out and buy a projector in order for you to enjoy their movies at home.
  • "CD is like Bad acid, not to be consumed"

Please digital downloads bollocks, the reason PJ still release vinyl is because it blows any other format out the window. why abandon the 7" releases cause you can't see sense and buy a turntable, more vinyl gathering dust. to really understand this band you really have to play the vinyl, all of the albums sound 10 times better on a decent turntable and that projector comment just completely misses the point. Analogue rules!!!

Just spinning the new 180 gram pressing of Appetite for Destruction, it's never sounded better.

I don't like CD's and will only purchase them when the vinyl is taking ages to come out, PJ will no doubt get my dollar for both formats because the vinyl for some reason like the previous albums comes weeks later.

I hope we get the vinyl simultaneously released with all the other formats with the new album, I'd rather not buy the CD due to it's ltd quality. My vinyl copy of Binaural made me see the album in a whole new light and I wanted to play it, I rarely put CD's on if I can help it.

I hope this is the start of a re-release program new vinyl copies of the back cat will be a joy to behold. Like Capitol have re-released all Radiohead's Parlophone back cat.

It would be dumb to get rid of the 7" singles. The songs on them have and will always be available in other formats cause fans download them off a turntable and put them on the internet. If you don't like the vinyl singles, just get it in one of the other formats. Sadly, the Xmas singles more recently have been available before the majority of them have been recieved by 10C members.

  • Vinyl definately has a different sound (for the better). I happen to collect vinyl. Record players are going for 80 to 100 bucks for a basic Sony. It is well worth the money to buy one. I listen to all vinyl released by PJ once or twice and then they collect dust. I do however pull out the vinyl on rare occassions and listen.
