So I've got their first major album "Turn on the Bright Lights" which was one of the best of the year when it came out. For whatever reason I never got any of their newer albums. Is there a big dropoff or are they all great? If I had to get one other for now which should it be?

  • I'd say Antics. The last 2 albums, the one in 2007 and the one released this year were good but not as good as the first two albums.

and I'd disagree with your statement. Turn on the Bright Lights, and Antics as well, arent just some of the best albums of the year TOTBL in 2002, and Antics in 2004, but easily are in the top half of the best albums of the entire decade.
  • I'd definitely get Antics and stop there. Their last two do not live up to those two.

I loved the first 2 albums...very creepy but deep music!

    Too bad Carlos left!

They are playing Coachella this year.
  • First two albums are MUST gets... then not so much...

Saw them years ago in the village... good stuff.

  • It's been a case of diminishing returns with each new album IMO. Having said that, I've enjoyed each of them. The latest one is in my top 25 of the year, whereas the first one would be top 2 or 3 had it been released in 2010 - incredible album!

    Leeds 2006, London 2007, Hartford 2008, London Shepherds Bush 2009, London O2 2009, Dublin 2010, London Hyde Park 2010, Amsterdam 1 2012, Amsterdam 2 2012, Berlin 1 2012, EV solo London 30/7/2012, Berlin 2014, Stockholm 2014, Milton Keynes 2014, Amsterdam 1 2018, London 1 2018, London 2 2018, EV solo Dublin 2019, London 1 2022, London 2 2022, New York City 2022

Sounds like I at least need to get album 2. They kind of have a sound I think that would hard to listen to for an entire 1 1/2 hour concert I'm afraid, but in smaller doses and in the right mood they're unbelievably great.
  • I'm seeing them at a festival here on New Years Eve. not really sure what to expect...whats the best album to start with?

I've seen them 3 times and they put on a great show each time. I would recommend seeing them if you get a chance and you really like their first two albums.

'OLTA' is really underrated. It's not as good as 'TOTBL' or 'Antics' but It's a god album that is worth listening to. 'Pace is the Trick' is one of the best songs they have ever made.

Their latest album was really disappointing but it still has a few really good songs. 'Lights' is right up there with anything they've ever done.
  • I would say check them all out. Yes, the last 2 albums aren't as good as the first 2 but, still worth a listen in my book. I enjoy all of their albums. I still view them as a great band.

not feeling the new song, but that's not a shock since I haven't liked anything from Interpol in a while.

Am I wrong in assuming that I will be disappointed with the new Interpol release simply because of the absence of Carlos D?
I admit, I don't know the inner workings of their band or how much Dengler contributed to the construction of the songs.....but damn, that bass guitar sounded good :)

Marauders is out.  Pretty good album.  Didn't stand out too much (kinda like El Pintor).
