with a friend. I'm just wondering if anyone can give us some info, stories about recent trips, to any of these places:

Aruba
Negril
Montego Bay
St. Thomas
St. Croix
Paradise Island
Nassau

And, we are not looking for a family friendly destination. So, yes, beaches and nightlife are important.

Thanks.

We went to Negril for our honeymoon. Stayed at Sandals. I would recommend it, but it is definetely more catered towards the honeymoon couple. We only went out of the resort once to go zip-lining. That was great. It was a good cultural experience during the drive out there. Seeing random cows along side the road while in town was different for us. The people are amazing, obviously the weather/scenery was great. And we're planning on going back. So there's my two cents.
    Midwest. Indy/Lafayette.

  • I've been to MoBay twice. 1st time was for our honeymoon, we stayed at a Sandals resort. Like another said, Sandals is more for the honeymooners, but there were definitely non-honeymooners there. One couple we met was from long island, and mentioned they go to a different Sandals twice a year for a week each. We went back a year and a half later and stayed at one of the Sunset resorts. Not bad, but not a Sandals. Food was on par with Sandals, but the accomodations weren't as nice. Mainly went on an impulse and got a hell of a deal on Cheap Carribbean about 10 days before we left.

We did Cancun last Christmas, plenty of nightlife there if that is what you are looking for. We stayed at one of the Riu resorts (palace cancun if my tequila fogged memory serves me correctly). If we went back though, we wouldn't stay in the hotel zone, we would probably head down the coast to Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya or out to Isla Mujeres. The best food we have had in the Carribbean was in Cancun.

We went to St. Lucia this summer, by far the nicest place in the Carribbean we have been yet. Downfall to St. Lucia is the drive from the airport to the resorts. You are looking at a minimum of 1 hr, in our case it was closer to 1 hr 45 mins since we had to stop at another Sandals 1st then drive through Castries on Friday rush hour. I think there is only 1 stoplight in the whole city. We did the sandals thing again there for half of the week (I believe it was the Grande St. Lucian) and stayed at the Almond Morgan Bay for the 2nd half. Both were nicer than where we have stayed in Jamaica, but beware of the Almond...lots of kids when we were there, but lots of activities for the adults at night. The old man and step mom have been to St. Lucia 2 times, both times they Sandaled it and loved it (I would too if I had payed for the butler service!). If you go to St. Lucia, I recommend paying out the extra 200 and taking a helicopter at least one way from the airport to Castries. 12 mins door to door.

Aruba can be expensive. But from what I have heard from friends who have been there is plenty of nightlife, just not a lot of all-inclusives.

Personally, I prefer the all-inclusive route in the Carribbean, you save a heck of a lot if you plan on enjoying the local beverages while sitting on the beach or at the swim up bar.

Damn it's cold here, all this talking about the islands is making me think about planning another trip for Jan or Feb... :D

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Riu Cancun is a great place for a somewhat "cheap" Carribean vacation, been there twice. go on one party hopper, and go ziplining and snorkeling on other days, makes for a great vacation

Just went to St Marten in October and it was great. I would definitely recommend it. Lots of cool bars and restaurants...and they have casinos.

I've been to Aruba as well. Can't go wrong with either place

    Thanks for all the feedback.
And, if anyone has a specific resort in mind, I am all ears.

    Thanks again
