    Some Qatar facts:

    Population; 1,696,563
3 New stadiums are to be built for the competition and then they will DISMANTLE the upper tiers of the stadiums and then and donate them to 'developing' countries

Average day time high temperature is 40C

Women got the right to vote in 1999.

    I can't wait to go...

  • say what you will, but you can't deny that these stadium plans look amazing(whether or not they can/will actually be built is another story)

i'm not a big soccer fan but the World Cup is pretty cool (although there are too many fn ties) but Qatar is ridiculous. i thought the story i saw said the average temperature is 113 degrees. stadiums will be built with air conditioning - nice. is there a more corrupt organization in the world than FIFA (maybe the roman catholic church, and i can go there because i was brought up catholic)?

    Cool.

    Homosexuality is illegal

Qatar is about half the size of Wales. How does a country that small host a World Cup? Should be interesting but im not confident if it will ever come to fruition.

I've got to the bottom of this. I know we all know the Russsians paid for it but there's a picture of the Russian delegation celebrating after the paid for result. There's a woman in a leopard skin dress. They took hookers with them.

haha ... it's funny how people are claiming corruption in the qatar decision ... what is ironic is that if you look at the world corruption index ... the united states scores below qatar in that the US is a more corrupt country than qatar ...

seriously tho ... the US had the world cup in 1994 ... that's only 7 world cups between then ... the US already gets the most olympics ... you guys make it sound like you deserve it or something ...

Well, 1994 was the best attended World Cup in history, and USA has all facilities ready to go. We are loaded with state-of-the-art football stadiums. It's plainly obvious that Qatar bought the thing. Now, if we lost to Australia or England or even Russia, I wouldn't have any problem with it.

how is that even a criteria!? ... by that notion ... only countries with existing facilities should host it ...

it should be about showcasing the world's most popular sport to everyone ... not just the same countries ...

obviously FIFA as well as the IOC are corrupt organizations ... that's no doubt ... but don't fool yourself if you think the US has won bids for world events based on merit ... Atlanta was a prime example ... a dysfunctional bid and the poorest of all countries for that olympics - but it won because of coca cola and the corruption ...
  • Has anyone made the "In Communist Russia, World Cup buys you" joke yet?

Well, I'm not from Atlanta or Salt Lake City, so those corrupt bids didn't do me any good.

We just need GM to get that electric car going, and Qatar won't be able to pay for it. Thus we'll be the backup and we'll get it anyway.

That's right. Philly didn't get any games in '94 because all we had was the piece of shit Vet. Now we have a legit football stadium.

I really wanted to go to the Meadowlands to see Ireland/Italy, but couldn't get tixx or get there. :(

Wow, just a few years ago you could go to the World Cup in Germany and actually window shop for prostitutes while walking around with a stein of beer. Now they are heading to a country that could prosecute you for making out in public . . . although that shouldn't be a problem as people will be inside trying to avoid the 120 degree heat!
  • qatar never bought the world cup , it was given to them by the big bent twat sep blatter ,there is so much going against qatar it is scary

Very true but I think the reality is they just wanted to give to places that had never had it before to attempt to create some sort of legacy for themselves. We gave the World Cup to the first arab nation blah blah blah...
