Just noticed this article at Yahoo, is it just me or is this kind of thing happening more and more these days? Only a few weeks back there was talk of a woman killing her child by stepping on his mouth, then another who drowned her baby then another woman who starved her children here in Adelaide. I mean you have to have a licence to drive a car, boat or plane, a licence to marry, they won't even let gay people marry but they'll let a raving maniac have a child???????

I know that Post-Natal depression is a problem and a genuine illness but hell, it's so important to check on these mothers, I never suffered from it myself but I was still only checked on by a mid-wife once after getting out of hospital and that was like 3 weeks after!!!!!!! What does everyone else think about this epidemic??

    it is very sad

i think that mental illness is a huge factor in many of these cases. not just post partum depression, but depression in general, sociopathic behaviors, etc. people just don't kill their babies. it is not normal human behavior. all of these mental health issues are often unnoticed by close friends and family and unreported by the one suffering with it, so help is never sought.

It's always happened. We just hear about it more because of the internet. Plus there's more people on the planet than ever.

Yeah, our mental health system is disgusting. We have 2 people in our family with schizophrenia, both had major psychosis and no one comes out to check on them or anything. If it wasn't for the family, god only knows what they could happen to them.

Grandma threw child 15m off mall walkway

A toddler has died in the US after she was thrown six stories off a shopping mall walkway by a woman believed to be her grandmother, police say.

Virginia police said the two-and-a-half-year-old girl fell 15m on Monday night from a walkway that links the mall to a parking garage.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright said 50-year-old Carmela Dela Rosa was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding.

Wright said the charge will be amended to murder now that the girl, Angelyn Ogdoc, has died.

Wright said the toddler and Dela Rosa were leaving the mall with family when Dela Rosa allegedly picked the girl up and threw her off the walkway.

Police have so far refused to comment on a possible motive for the crime.

"We don't discuss motives," a police spokesman told MSNBC.

The same thing happened not long ago here in Melbourne, some guy threw his 2 year old daughter off the bridge all because his wife left him.
And another guy killed his 3 sons to get back at his estranged wife by driving the car into a dam and leaving them to drown.
    Evil people.

  • In the last two years in Louisiana we had one woman kill her baby by putting it in the drier - she was mad that it wouldn't stop crying - and a guy kill himself and his two sons because he refused to let his ex-wife see the kids on the weekend.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

how can they call it the justice system when deals like this are made?

    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/817569 ... ted-report

Elisa Baker won't be executed: report

Zahra Baker's US stepmother has struck a deal that saves her from being executed or sentenced to life in prison if convicted of an offence related to the 10-year-old Australian girl's death, according to US reports.

North Carolina prosecutors agreed to the deal with Elisa Baker in return for her help with the murder investigation.

Soon after the deal was made, Zahra's dismembered remains and prosthetic leg were found by search teams in various bush locations outside the town of Hickory, where Zahra lived with her biological father Adam Baker and stepmother Elisa Baker.

The 10-year-old was born in Wagga Wagga but moved to the US with her father.

It is believed Elisa Baker led police to Zahra's remains and prosthetic leg.

Zahra was reported missing on October 9 and Elisa Baker was arrested a day later. She has been held in a North Carolina jail since on an obstruction of justice charge related to a fake ransom note and charges unrelated to Zahra's disappearance.

Hickory police have not charged anyone in connection with Zahra's death, but have not ruled Elisa Baker and Adam Baker out as suspects.

Under the deal, reported by North Carolina TV station WSOC, prosecutors agreed not to charge Elisa with first-degree murder, meaning that if she's convicted, she would not face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Locals are outraged by the deal and point to the horrific life Zahra, who had her leg amputated following bone cancer, was forced to endure.

"This child suffered from cancer. I don't think that a second-degree murder charge is justice," Sherrie Rowell-Monnell, who visited a memorial dedicated to Zahra, told the Hickory Record newspaper.

"This child's body was dismembered and put in awful places. I think if I had a decision, it would be first-degree murder and the death penalty."

Some lady threw her child of the suspension bridge near vancouver, a major tourist attraction which is 70m above the shallow, rocky river at the bottom... canada-capilano-suspension-bridge.jpg

The girl ended up hitting a tree and i guess the branches broke her fall and she actually survived
The mom said she dropped her but if you've ever been there, the cable railings go up to my shoulders, i'm about 5'2... No way she "dropped" that baby accidentally. And the child happened to have down syndrome...

Unfortunately with the internet and mass media coverage we hear more of this sort of news. Sadly there are a lot of sickos on the planet but luckily the percentage is small.
