I know it's a scary thought but if Pearl Jam never existed, who would be your favourite band?
“ "Thank you Palestrina. It’s a wonderful evening, it’s great to be here and I wanna dedicate you a super sexy song." " (last words of Mark Sandman of Morphine)

Eddie Vedder- 7/16/11
Brad- 4/21/12 (RSD Performance), 4/27/12, 8/10/12
Flight To Mars- 5/23/12
RNDM- 11/27/12
PEARL JAM- 12/6/13 I have finally seen Pearl Jam live!
MMJ is the only band that has a realistic chance of taking that title at some point.
If you just mean "who's your second favorite band", then The Doors.
If you mean "how would your musical taste have evolved if PJ hadn't been around", then the answer is much more difficult. I mean, knowing who PJ's influences were only got me into The Who, Uncle Neil, a lot of other 70's stuff, Zeppelin, and ultimately also The Doors. So without PJ, would I still be a Doors fan? Probably not. Would I be listening to techno music instead? Probably notter. But it's really hard to tell, as a lot of the bands that I listen to are somehow PJ related - Soundgarden, R.E.M., Foo Fighters, you name it. :ugeek:

The long answer is that there are two ways to look at this. Before they were my favorite band, Nirvana was my favorite, so maybe that's an answer. However, that was approximately 15-16 years ago, so it is not the likely answer.
On the other end, the reason why I would not have a favorite is because my tastes have become too dispersed. Of the more modern recent bands, the Black Keys are clearly the band I follow closest, with Ben Harper pretty much neck and neck with them. However, I follow what Bruce Springsteen does pretty closely, even though he is more of a classic rock outfit, and I follow what the Roots do pretty regularly (I consider HOW I GOT OVER among the best albums released this year that I heard). At the same time, I have a tremendous passion for the music of The Who. All these bands take turns as the music I feel most passionately about not by Pearl Jam and I would have a very hard time choosing from them.
