Just want to pay my respects to the 29 Coal Miners who perished in a second explosion today in New Zealand.

My thoughts are with their families, friends, friends of friends etc.

    So sad.

Youngest just 17. Of course loss of life at any age is sad, but 17, he is just a boy.

With the news of the Chilean miners, and the two in Tasmania a couple of years ago, I was almost thinking it was just a matter of time before they pulled them out to safety. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Love, prayers and thoughts are with our neighbours.

mining companies are like oil companies in many regards ... there concerns for safety don't come close to their desire for profit ... there have been multiple mining accidents in china ... last week's rescue is the exception rather than the norm ...

our country is quiet and sad

such a shock for us all

it's heartening to find threads and messages like this

I, too, am sending all my love and thoughts to the whanau (family) of the deceased

I sincerely hope this is the last mining tragedy of this scale we are going to see - something needs to be done - nothing is worth the loss of 29 fathers, brothers, uncles, sons + husbands :( . Yet we need to keep in mind that coal mining is one of the area's main financial supports....it is hard.

Our whole country is in mourning.
We can all rant on about the evils of mining but when you have a family to feed and live in a small town there aren't very many options.

Yeah, that's right. These are people with families and mouths to feed. So sorry to hear about this, we were just there last year for PJ's concerts, beautiful country. R.I.P.
