Does anyone remember this when it happened?
I was 11 (showing my age) I found it amazing and still do that one
man could have so much influence over people that he could even lead them
to their death willingly.

Thoughts?

I remember. Pretty decent movie about it as well. Brought us the phrase 'drinking the kool-aid.'

All throughout history, people have been willingly lead to their death by the words of others...

    Forward he cried
    From the rear
    And the front ranks died

I was -3 when it happened but have seen documentaries. Another reason I choose to have no beliefs.

Same here, plus he was a local preacher here in the Bay Area, a lot of the victims were locals. I watched a documentary couple years ago I think on PBS about it, very interesting. So sad.

yeah cant really see that getting you into heaven.

i remember years ago watching this movie called the rapture. it was an end of days type thing. and mimi rogers had the plan of killing her child and then killing herself. the killing her child part was ok cause she could repent for that sin. but when it came time to kill herself she came to the realisation that suicide is the only sin you cant repent for. so she was stuck. if she killed herself she wasnt going to where she wanted. personally my problem was her killing her child.
