I don't understand what means in english:

cry sb a river
keep on sb's toes...

I guess they may be idioms or sth similar.
I know, my question doesn't fit here, but this is the most visited place in forum.
Can You explain me in simple words, what those phrases mean?

thanks

  • To keep you on your toes - to make you stay alert (with a test?)

Cry me a river - you can cry a lot but you will not get my sympathy.

    How's that?
