He voices some sound ideas. I think about these questions a lot. I still don't have any answers though, other than to try and live with as little accumulated material crap as I can manage. As for humanity as a whole, I'm doubtful it will ever collectively pull back from consuming the Earth to death. I can't see that turnaround occuring without some major shove in the right direction - either by the hand of nature of otherwise.
So, I suppose what I'm saying is that we're pretty fucked. :problem:
On a side note, I've been reading something recently about the origins of Christianity and the advent of our material viewpoint of the world we live in, and it's interesting to consider that Christinaity as we know it is actually based almost entirely on pagan beliefs. Christianity and the teachings of the Church are basically a sham, a fraud, a co-option and distortion of earlier pagan beliefs, which the early Church fathers did their best to suppress and destroy - the mystery religions of the Ancient world. The bible teaches that man has dominion over nature and this belief has permeated our culture for the past 2000 years. Maybe if we begin to fully recognize the fiction of this belief system and just what it was that this fiction replaced - a religion that emphasized our fundamental spiritual connection to the Earth - then our perspective may start to change.
