i don't think you'd like him if he stole your boat/plane and crashed it!
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I just really feel sorry for the kid, obviously his mother was helping him escape and providing him with a laptop, cell phone etc, and now he's going to federal court, and most likely federal prison (I have a friend in federal prison...not a great place to visit someone).

Certainly a really smart kid that could have been so much more....

yeah i've seen footage of the mother
    not so great

    he is a somewhat-evil genius
    at least he did nothing
    to physically hurt anyone

but yes, he could have done much more with all that genius

Threatening someone with a gun is just as bad as physical violence. A 'genius' would have thought of the long term consequences of running versus just turning himself in right away.
