Just saw Stone on King 5 News here in Seattle. He was talking about his environmental work. Pretty cool.
Slipped on a curb in the road.

    Here's the link.

Pearl Jam is just another business trying to make it's customers happy.

And I have to ask... what's up with his shoes? (Yes I am that superficial.)

That was pretty weird of Stone saying that but it's true. It's all business. Trying to make their fan's (the customers) happy.

Now release Halifax '05 on Flac or CD dammit! :x

OK while I have to admit Stone has been talking a lot about "business" lately....

Still, I really don't think the environmental stuff is anything new except for the corporate cooperation, you know.

i mean Eddie was part of earth first (hence MonkeyWrench) Eddie+Vedder+Eddie.jpgwrench.gifmw-300x246.jpgand San Diego surfer's ocean conservation projects way before he was part of pj and Stone's been into conservation, Jeff has a bunch of smaller projects going on in the NW for a long time now. The tree planting stuff.

Only lately, has it been a public thing that they are trying to minimize their carbon footprint, planting in the rain forest etc...to cover the damage the tour might have done...
so, in that sense i think you're absolutely right ULD, but as far as it being on their private agendas, nothing new.

Its just that it seems to me as if the world has just woken up to the fact that PJ exists and that they are masters and so all of a sudden everything makes the news.

I can't decide if I like it or not. I'm surely proud of the guys and am so happy that the world is getting to know them and all the good they do even off stage, but then again, i'm kinda jealous too, know what i mean, miss being able to kinda keep them for myself...well, within my little personal circle of non-10C and non-FB PJ friends (cuz everyone i know on a day to day personal level, things i'm nuts and way "over the top" i hear that one constantly from certain ppl lol! ..certain people who "NOW" by the way think that the fixer and speed of sound are the best thing since chocolate cake lol!) anyway that's another story.

anyway, now that i've lost any interest i might have held for you....let me just say that I think the guys have had this mindset for a long, long time now, but now they're big enough (in other people's eyes finally instead of just ours) to make a noticeable and sizeable PUBLIC contribution. But i think they've been contributing all along, if not financially then through blood, sweat and tears. Know what I'm saying?

Sorry..I know I go on forever, it's this greenery, :? the cops must be burning their evidence vault again (do you know they DO that?...well that's another thread..but true) :o

Excellent points as always, StillHere. Greenery or not. ;)

I think it makes sense, given the current economy and just plain common sense, to take a businesslike approach to this. It's clear their work affects a lot of their fans, and they have the opportunity to influence people widely. I loved that snippet I saw a while back of Stone in the electric car. And the efforts at environmental protection are so badly needed. Even if by watching this, half of us get rid of plastic water bottles and start using reusable containers... think of the impact over time.

But still... I'm left wondering about the shoes. What is up with those shoes?

the shoes are beyond my comprehension...maybe another result of recycled plastic bottles? lol!
not leather tho, i'm sure...at least i hope not...those are funky...but then again, doesn't stone wear socks with his birkenstocks? even I don't do that, i don't think i even own socks , so...well, anyway. stone is quite the business man these days...apparently he's even forgotten what its like to be a "fun lovin' rocknrolla" LOL! now that's funny....well, maybe not. :wtf:

just completes the package LOL! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

and i do agree that you're right about the business like approach....weren't we just talking the other day about ed's comments on how they have to handle all aspects of pj as a business now just to like keep their sanity, even clocking in at the complex, etc. I hope that busineslike feeling doesn't extend to the time we all spend together with the band on stage, but i'm sure it doesn't, for the most part that's self-evident..i can just hear ed now, oh sh&t crap f8*k i don't feel like doing this fkn crap again tonight...and everyone else kinda groaning in agreement...but THEN they get on stage, and we refuel their spirits and they SOAR....right? i mean don't you think they really really enjoy that part of it? I hope so. They must, how else could each performance be so freakin moving? yep, i'm making an executive decision here...PJ is a buinsess, yes, but he live performances are not part of that whole busiensslike thing they've got going. so be it. forever, and ever Ament! hehee..man i need sleep too, is it obvious?

    OK well
nighty night sleep tight zzzzzzzzzzzzzz tty tomorrow

A bit more on the cause in the Seattle Weekly blog:

  • Wow... Stone is now rubbing elbows with a Rothschild scion. Impressive. Now I know why they are so adamant on keeping a 'vault' full of secret stuff. ;)

David de Rothschild should just ask his entire clan to twist the arms of their corporate clients not to use plastic at all, and all will be good. They do have a bit of influence on the goings-on of the world, don't they?
