Would you take your child into a sports bar/grill -
pool tables, big screen games everywhere, folks gathered to drink beer after work?
if so
would you expect everyone there to keep a check on their language?

i have no children
i try to watch my language whenever i am around them, anyway
not always sucessfully, though

just curious how parents feel
. . .
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

I'm not a parent, but I feel that language is language. You can't hide your kids from foul language forever. I think the real key is teaching them why it's inappropriate in certain scenarios, but in the end...they're just words...and have a time and place. Kids need to be taught good manners, and I don't think there will be much of a problem.

I try to watch my mouth around kids too. I was never protected from bad language as a kid, but I was definitely disciplined on them.

Perhaps my outlook would be different if I had children though.

Say like a Buffalo Wild Wings? I don't have kids, but yeah, i would take them there.

unlike some poeple, i wouldn't want my kids to grow up to be a bunch of namby pamby's

If I don't want my kid to see behavior that is customarily practiced at an establishment, I feel its my responsibility to not bring my kid into that environment.

  • I have brought my kids to PJ shows and Pre-Parties. It is my responsibility for what they see and where they go. I do not expect people to behave differently because of their presence. They all know the language... they know they can't use it and they do ask questions about things from time to time.

No kids, and I never will...I go to bars to get away from children. When we go out to eat, we sit in the bar and have not eaten in the dining room for several years. I don't think it's fair to bring a child into an establishment where there could be 'questionable behavior/language' and expect all patrons to self censor themselves. Kinda like going to a rock concert and asking then to 'turn the music down'.
Sporting events already have rules against 'excessive use of foul language' and I expect that, in a bar...no freaking way.

I generally don't bring my children places where they might be uncomfortable socially or physically (because of noise). I think it's unfair to drag children along to places that are too noisy, too chaotic, or boring for them.

Standing by original statement, I'd also have to agree with this. I don't think I'd take my children to sports bar/grill in the first place...probably too boring for them.

  • Most sports bar-type places have a dining area and a bar area... Unless my kids were like high school age, I don't think I'd sit with them in the bar area. Obviously if it's some random afternoon (non football game) and we sat at a booth in the bar area, not a big deal... but happy hour/big sports night, I'd stick with the dining room.

Just the other night while waiting for a table in a popular restaurant, we hung out at the bar with my 7 year old. I see nothing wrong with that and she enjoyed it. But bars without a restaurant should be adults only. My opinion at least.

A true sports bar no I wouldn't take my kids there and I would not be expecting others to watch their language if I did.
When my kids were small..15 years ago... there were plenty of family type places that had all of the above but geared towards the kids too. They were not adult places.
Thats where we went but I can't think of a sports bar like that these days at least not around here.

Strictly speaking you do, but some local pubs don't care.

Here there are 'designated' bar areas where minors are not allowed no matter what. If the bar/pub serves food (which they are required to do if they serve liquor) children/minors are allowed in until 10pm, then they are supposed to get out, but I've been to places that let little kids (6-8 year olds) run amok well past 11:30 pm.
