according to the world health organization, which ranks things like infant mortality, and longetivity.

isn't the US the richest country in the world? sure we have the best care in the world, people come from all over of the world to be treated in the US, provided they can pay for it. and provided we can pay for it.

but for the majority that isnt' realistic. should the goal be to save as many lives as possible? isn't that what universal health care does in most european countries? shouldn't that be the goal in the US?

sure the US is good at taking lives.....its spends as much as the next 27 countries (england china russia saudi arabia israel) on its violence....why is saving lives such a taboo?

why not spend as much as the next 27 countries on health care? what's wrong with saving lives?

This communist bullshit makes me sick!
The U.S is the greatest country in the world!
    Love it or leave it!
The U.S is no place for this commie health care bullshit!
Why should the average American pay for someone else's health care! The hardworking people of America have more important things to spend their tax dollars on, such as fighting evil-doers in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and Palestine, e.t.c.
If you don't like it then you can always move to Iran or Cuba!!

lol. you sounded like a tea bagger. always willing to criticize the gays....taxes....immigrants....government spending....etc.

and i might see that and i might say "the US ranks 30th in health care int eh world" just as a conversation piece, to keep the theme they have started going.....

    which leads too..

"get the fuck out if you doin't like it. this is the greatest country on earth. fuck you you fucking fag if you want to question it."

so. just to clarify.. its ok for them to question policy, but when i do it i need to "get the fuck out"?

they hate immigration taxes obama socialism, abortion, are por death penalty.....all that shit is fine to say but when i say "hey, there is a direct correlation between US gov't aid and human rights abuses.....

that's my queue to get the fuck out of the country. according to the teabaggers.

I went to the W.H.O.'s website and couldn't find an overall ranking. There is a sections that breaks down many factors in the 2010 annual report, but I did not see any overall rankings that combined their nine categories for an overall list. Perhaps it is there, but I couldn't find it.

I would be interested to see if the W.H.O. did release a list or if it was interpolated by outside parties.

The WHO - nothing to do with mods and parkas - stopped making health care rankings ten years ago because the task was too arduous and complex. In the 2000 rankings the US came 37th. France came first.

The WSJ, friend of the insurance man, naturally argues that the WHO's assessment criteria is eccentric:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125608054324397621.html

The New England Journal is a bit more inclined to look at the stats and work out that whatever the case, "U.S. performance not only is poor at any given moment but also is improving much more slowly than that of other countries over time. These observations and the reflections they should trigger are made possible only by careful comparative quantification of various facets of health care systems."

Here's something more recent, though, from the Commonwealth Fund website:

  • there was a thread a little while ago with some rankings of how various countries rated in regards to health, education etc. the US was ranked at 26 for health. a lot of the countries ranked higher have socialized health care.

America's health care system is second only to Japan, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, well...all of Europe. But you can thank your lucky stars we don't live in Paraguay!

No, I sincerely was not. I'm not going to pick on you or anyone else just because of some of our past disagreements. I was just asking a question.

In fact, I even apologize if it upset you. However, it came across as harsh...and unnecessary.

i'd like to know the source as well ... when i google this .. it only brings up a really old article ...

i would be shocked if the US ranked 33rd in providing health care ... at least for those who can afford it or have insurance ...

Someone on the first page stated the WHO released the figures in 2000 but they pulled the figures rather quickly and stopped doing it because it there was a lot of scrutiny on the data, which the WHO acknowledged. The WHO does have pretty in-depth stats for a multitude of categories but they don't try to determine an "overall ranking" anymore.
