Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood is my favorite.

Once Upon A Time In The West, or any film with Ennio Morricone's name on it.

I would agree this is a great soundtrack.

Anything by John Williams (have been disappointed with the Harry Potter scores ever since he departed from them). I like Danny Elfman scores as well.

The Godfather scored by Nina Rota is simply breathtaking. And Im also a fan of Bernard Herrmann who did Taxi Driver.

That Gladiator soundtrack is great. The female singer on the finale song sings with some emotion.

I love anything From Danny Elfman and James Horner
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

Someone mentioned The Godfather, and I will immediately agree.

I'd also have to mention Braveheart. The music is perfectly paired with the film.

I really enjoyed the music in Raging Bull as well.

  • The Godfather is incredible. I also think the score from Raging Bull, which I believe was just a classical piece prior and not made specifically for the movie, is one of the most beautiful works ever. I believe its called Cavalleria Rusticana

Raging Bull wasn't an original score (if your talking about the opening credits?)

I was referring to the opening credits, and I did not know that. Thank you for the clarification. :)

How about The Terminator, and Halloween (John Carpenter's). Some very distinctive music going on in those films.

Damnit, I need to see that movie still.

Anybody see K-PAX? I thought it had a beautiful score.

  • Bernard Herrmann, the king of movie scores. He wrote the score for dozens of Hitchcock movies, but he won an Oscar for his work on Taxi Driver. Taxi Driver, that's my pick for greatest movie score. In college, I wrote a 10 page paper about how his score affects the overall impact of a film.

A BD! Of course I got an A. Who do you think you're talking to? I had a very useful major in college, but a very useless minor (film). The only rewards I reap to this day from being a film minor is that I can dominate intelligent movie discussions at parties and mixers.

Probably more worth it than your major

Funny you should ask that, my dear. The baby means what you want it to mean. Life, death, hope, renewal, pessimism about the future. Now, can I buy you another crantini?

Hitchcock for sure. Pyscho (Which nearly went without a score) has to be one of the most famous movie scores going.

Jaws was really effective as well.

Very true. Digital Twilight, always the astute film critic. You have very refined taste in movies, my friend. Good call on Clockwork at the top of the page.

Peter Gabriels soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ is probably one of my favorites.

I'm also partial to Danny Elfman soundtracks, although I'm probably biased since Oingo Boingo was one of my favorite bands in high school.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
