People just don't know the songs or the songs aren't as strong as the rest of their catalog. I vividly remember them playing Cropduster at the Spectrum and it just KILLED the momentum they generated with the beginning of the show. I suppose the exact same can be said about b-sides but I prefer b-sides to most songs on both of those albums. I think there is a reason that songs considered rarities are rarities for a reason in the band's eyes.
i'm in the 10 club and if anything from riot act is played (except can't keep) it sucks the life out me. i'd be pissed if i went to a pearl jam show and they played cropduster or green disease. riot act is not concert friendly.0 -

Just listened to show #1 again over the last two days which I hadn't done from beginning to end since I bought the boots and it's a damn fine show. Sounds great massive energy ~ Ghost And Rival in particular are great. Although I favour Rival now as a song on this performance alone!Melbourne #1 '98

All fair points but PJ are paid to fill the seats not try to keep fickle people in them. Unless they only concentrate on mainly singles and play most of Ten each night they'll always have followers who'll leave once they've heard what they want. The band are well aware of that as much as they are aware of how excited we get when they pull something rare out of the hat. They seem good at appeasing most fans but at the same time there's a lot of neglected songs that people want to hear and it would be great to hear a few standards dropped to make room for them sometimes. They released these songs so they must like them to some extent? Riot Act and Binaural are highly thought of by a lot of people! Peace...Like a book among the many on a shelf...

I guess you could look at it from 2 ways. Maybe why you think it 'sucks the life out the crowd' is because they don't know the song. I don't think he casual fan would think it is bad, just that they don't know it. If they played it more I'm sure it wouldn't suck the life out when more people are getting into it. Think of other studio tracks people know just because they play them much more regularly.
On the flip side, if they played it more it would lose that special feeling us fans get of the rarities. Lucky to see it on 1 out of 18 performances :-D0 -
Great song, one of my favourites. On the Riot Act tour I went to hear three songs - Can't Keep, Ghost and Cropduster. Great memories!

I was fortunate enough to see Ghost live at Leeds last year. Personally, I love the song - but even though I was in the GA near the front I guess many people wither don't know it or don't like it cuz they all start yapping to each other. Since it's not a particularly loud or fast song, they don't have to scream into each others ear to be heard, so their conversations are easily heard and actually unavoidable, which is distracting for me.NYC 06/24/08-Auckland 11/27/09-Chch 11/29/09-Newark 05/18/10-Atlanta 09/22/12-Chicago 07/19/13-Brooklyn 10/18/13 & 10/19/13-Hartford 10/25/13-Baltimore 10/27/13-Auckland 1/17/14-GC 1/19/14-Melbourne 1/24/14-Sydney 1/26/14-Amsterdam 6/16/14 & 6/17/14-Milan 6/20/14-Berlin 6/26/14-Leeds 7/8/14-Milton Keynes 7/11/14-St. Louis 10/3/14-NYC 9/26/15

I saw Ghost in Denver a few months ago, and I thought of you, Dimi, when I was listening to the boot in the car today.
BTW, the life was not sucked out of the crowd -- it was awesome! \m/ \:D/ =D> =D>

Ghost in Denver, was by far the "trippest" sound I heard PJ ever play ^:)^ .
Sorry D, I hope one day we get to enjoy this together.

Riot Act is probably my least favorite Pearl Jam album, and the first time I heard "Ghost" in concert I didn't recognize it. That said, it was KILLER. First song I looked up after the concert. Would totally love to hear this song again."I'm not the paper, I'm more like the fold ..."0

That Columbus 03 show... being my first show, it'd be fun to go back in time and re-watch it. There were several surprises...
But I'll gladly take that awesome Cincinnati Daughter tag...it was worth the wait over not getting one in Columbus for all those years. That third encore...people started leaving, but not me!
