yeah let me just pull 1.5 million out of my back pocket...

god knows she does not have that kind of cash. if i got fined that much i would say, "take my house, my 2 cars, my vintage band shit, and everything i have"... it would not be anywhere near 1.5 million bucks...

why are they going after individual people instead of those who posted it or those who had servers that hosted it?

I think this is the third trial as well. Does the jury come up with the damages? I think a $1,000 fine should cover everything.

I would consider illegally downloading some songs in protest of this judgement if there was any new music worth illegally downloading. :)

$24, that's what she sould pay. I heard she tried to settle with them a couple of times but the music company just kept pushing it to go to trial. There trying to make an example of her, but it's stupid, there never gona see the money and they know it. There's a bigger agenda here.

No doubt she should be fined for having poor taste in music. But 1.5M is a bit much.

Now that I know the tracklisting, she should be fined $3M.

  • They did offer her a chance to settle for 25k if I remember correctly, I would've taken that rather than fight this out for years.

  • That's nuts. I'd file for BK and then tell them to try and collect.

$25K is redicoulous. What happened to the punishment fitting the crime? She stole $24 in music. Maybe $48 should be the fine.

    Exactly.

They have to stop picking on people. It should be a punishable crime to sue someone for that much for taking so little.

The record company exec should be doing some jail time.

I can't believe we let this shit go on in America.. Do we sue people millions of dollars for steeling some CD from a record store?

    Give me a break!

Speaking of which, what normally happens in these situations?

My mom just called me and asked if I downloaded a TV show when I was over last.. because Comcast sent them a letter warning of copyright infringement..

Does this mean my 27 year old, recently unemployed brother is going to jail for downloading Battlestar Galactica?

travelling to bali always results in the bringing back of DVDs. why arent they confiscated at the border? cause clearly its an offense to own, let alone download these movies.

  • You got to remember that she's also distributing the songs and that's where the ridiculous fine comes in.

that charge her for each distribution that she made. $2 per distro and call it a day.

let the punishment fit the crime.
