1. the band messes up at around 2:30 pretty badly
2. ed messes up the lyrics shortly after
3. the solo is good, but i've heard much better and longer ones. it ends at 6 minutes.

i understand it wasnt played the entire tour, but seriously, people hype things up too much. I'd say its a pretty OK version.

  • Did one person on one random post call this legendary or something? I don't think it's the consensus by any means that this performance is considered legendary, so that should be the end of that.

    It was more than just the song itself. It represented everything the band went through that year. Everyone in that building was taking in that show like it could the band's last. And i think the band was feeling the same. So when they played alive for the first time , combine that with it being the last show of the tour at home and possibly the last show ever it was definitely an emotional and significant performance. But it's probably one of those "you had to be there" shows. I think anyone else who was there would agree with me.
  • i think it not being played on the us leg had to do with the Roskilde thing, its one of their biggest songs for it not to be played on an entire tour says that it being played again is a special moment, i gather for the people that were there it was a pretty emotional performance of the song.

    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}

    Like i said above i think us that were there can uderstand what happened that night. Some things bootlegs can't capture.
  • It was a special moment, wasnt there people in the crowd from some of the famlies.
    I dont get why you wouldnt just understand this, if you go out of your way to judge individual songs from boots, you should have some clue.
    Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

    no more shows

    I've been to close to 30 shows since 1998...so I wasn't there for the early years....but that one took my breath away. If you were there, you understand. And for those of you who don't believe something unless you read it in a magazine....Spin ranked it as the band's greatest-ever show. So, there ya go.

    so did mike himself.

    alive was amazing. maybe not technically and musically, but what it stood for and everything that had happened, it was beyond special to be in that arena that night, hearing that song.

    When they played the first few notes of it, i know everybody in my area turned to a friend next to them and seemed speechless. It was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen.

    I was in a university class about discovering yourself the next semester and two people I didn't know were at the show brought up the feeling that they got being at that show as being their "most memorable spiritual experience". One guy referenced when Alive was played.

    i understand all of that, i actually dont even think the show as a whole whole is anything that special compared to other boots. the jones beach show was much better. i know i wasn't there and all that, but just listening to it, i dont find it any better then an average show.

  • I honestly thought that they would break up after that and that I was maybe watching their last show. The place was so quiet when Ed was speaking, really sad looking back.
    Let's see those 2013 dates in the southern states.

    Yup. Ed was sending a lot of mixed signals to the crowd that it could be it. Glad to see he and the band came to their senses.

    Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
    Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
    Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

    Calling anything legendary is a matter of opinion. In the case of Alive/Seattle 2, it's one opinion I agree with . I love the boot as a whole and side three in particular.

    If you're judging songs by "lyric flubs" and what not ... you really don't get this band.

    I don't think anybody in their right mind has ever claimed it SOUNDED legendary. The thing is, it was that song's first performance since it was SUPPOSED to be played at Roskilde.

    It was the song on the setlist right after Daughter at Roskilde, the song nine people would have heard if they hadn't been killed.

    The band shelved the song for the duration of the tour because it was too emotional. Then broke it out for the final show in Seattle.

    If you can't see how that is a legendary MOMENT .... then, sorry, I can't help you. Hell, I wasn't even AT the show, and I teared up a bit first time I listened to that boot.

    I know a lot of people were freaking out about it at all, but I never really got that from the boot.

    Sounded like typical end-of-tour stuff to my ears.

    But I wasn't there.
