Just saw Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses last night on his last stop in the States for a few months. I know I'm a little late to the party here, but he is one bad MoFo live. Played over two and a half hours and covered a ton of stuff from all three of his albums. I would highly recommend seeing him when he comes back around. Great songwriter with a fantastic voice. Comes off as genuine with regards to his lyrics and his delivery on stage. The Dead Horses are a tight bunch. You can tell they have spent a lot of time playing live together.

Mescalito, Roadhouse Sun, and Junky Star are the three albums. Hard to say which one I like best. They are all damn good in my opinion.

Agreed, I like the first two Marc Ford produced albums much more. Junky Star is OK and a change of pace, but I hope T. Bone Burnett is not doing Ryans next album.

  • Agreed. Junky Star is a great album, but I would like to see Marc Ford produce the next album again. Maybe play a little on it as well. I think it's cool his son Elijah plays bass for the Dead Horses. He played a bunch of songs from each album the other night. He interacted and talked with the crowd, but he didn't waste much time between songs. I would go back and see them again in a heart beat. Usually, I listen to a lot of an artist up until a concert, then don't pull out their albums for at least a couple of weeks. I listened to Bingham's entire catalogue the next day. Plan on listening to him again today.
  • I stumbled across Ryan on the Lost Highway site after Mescalito had been released, listened to it and ordered it that day and have been a huge fan ever since.
I'm with everybody else as for the first one being the best one....not that Roadhouse Sun and Junky Star are bad at all...both are exceptional as well. I do miss the more rockin songs like those from Mescalito though. Pity is I've never had a chance to see him live except on Austin City Limits.
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

This. I was actually highly disappointed in the newest album. I'd liked so many other T Bone Burnett produced albums, and I was already a big fan of Ryan Bingham, but this new one just isn't doing it for me. It's okay, but I don't have a desire to put it on any sort of rotation.

I saw him open for the Drive By Truckers at First Avenue in Minneapolis in 2007. He was great and I enjoy all his albums, Mescalito especially. He's the real deal in the country/rock world.

  • After a few years of waiting, I finally got to see Ryan and the Dead Horses in Madison and Milwaukee the past two nights. Amazing! Played songs from all of his albums as well as "The Times They are A Changin'" and Woodie Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land". Was great to see him out with the protesters in Madison on Saturday too. Dude is the real deal. Get out and see these guys when they come through your town!

  • Got the new album "Tomorrowland" in the mail today. Pretty solid album. Sounds a bit closer to the first two album then "Junky Star" did. A lot more electric guitar on this album with some good ballads mixed in. If your a fan of Ryan's, I think you like it. Looking forward to this fall's tour also.

Pretty awesome that he autographed every copy that was sold through the pre-sale on his website too!
