Chicago prisoners get to vote, overseas military not!

Over 35 counties in Illinois missed the deadline to mail military
ballots to our soldiers defending America. But in Chicago, county
election officials have taken special steps to ensure that no inmates at
the Cook County Jail are unable to cast a ballot.

The Chicago Board of Elections hand delivers ballots to the jail.
They don’t even wait for the inmates to apply – they bring the
applications with the ballots! Over 2,600 inmates have cast ballots so
far – strikingly similar to the 2,600 soldiers who will likely not
receive a ballot for the Nov 2 election.

Disgraceful does not begin to describe the Illinois Election system.

Does anyone know
why they can't the get ballads to the solders and why is no one accountable?

  • Chicago is a beautiful city, however it may be the most corrupt city in the world. This will not even make local news tonight, but Im sure we will here plenty on our corrupt politicians and some more police brutality.

The two topics are most likely unrelated. I'm sure it is not the same people in charge of sending the ballots to the military that also send to CCDOC (Cook County Jail). I think it is terrible that Illinois soldiers overseas are not going to be able to vote, however you are making it seem that the prisoners inside CCDOC should not vote. I have to disagree with you if this is your opinion. Most of the people in Cook County Jail are not there because of a serious offense, they are awaiting trials, because they can't afford bond. This is a county jail, not a prison. I don't think it's right if someone is locked up for a short period, or any length of time that they should lose their right to vote. These people are all inocent (just ask them). They are all innocent, because that is how this country works. You are "innocent" untill proven guilty. Therefore, I see no reason an innocent person should not vote.

As for the military, that is just another example of how our elected officials think of themselves before anyone they are representing and even worse, those who are defending this great land of ours. Absolutely no excuse for this bullshit anymore. We need to vote in people who aren't going to hand out jobs to their friends and family, and not to those who are qualified.

WASHINGTON -- Nearly a third of the state's 110 election authorities failed to ship out ballots to military and overseas voters by the federal deadline of Sept. 18, but Illinois election officials say they are working with the U.S. Justice Department to ensure all the ballots are counted by the deadline Nov. 16.

Illinois Republicans have been raising concerns about the possibility that military ballots -- which might trend Republican -- might not be counted.

Dan White, executive director of the Illinois State Board of Elections, told the Sun-Times that his agency is in ongoing discussions with the Department of Justice to make sure all the ballots are counted on time.

An overseas or military ballot must be postmarked by midnight Nov. 1 -- but then has until Nov. 16 to be counted by a local election authority.

Thirty-four of 110 election authorities in Illinois missed the Sept. 18 deadline to ship out ballots, with the latest going out Oct. 8, White said.

The GOP campaigns of Mark Kirk and Bill Brady, the candidates for senator and governor, said in a joint statement issued Thursday, "Our service members deserve an immediate investigation to gather all the facts and find an appropriate remedy to ensure their ballots are counted in this election. We pledge to do everything within our power to prevent the disenfranchisement of Americans in uniform."

White said "there is still time" for overseas and military ballots to make it back and get counted.

He anticipates reaching an agreement with the Justice Department and did not expect the state to be sued -- action the Justice Department has taken in other states whose election authorities have been tardier than Illinois is getting overseas and military ballots out. White said he will have another conference call with Justice Department voting rights lawyers today.

Reports in other news outlets that the Justice Department was investigating the State of Illinois over the military and overseas ballots gave a misleading impression that the Justice Department was targeting Illinois when the Justice Department is investigating every state to make sure the election authorities are in compliance with federal law.

Justice Department spokesman Xochitl Hinojosa said Thursday, "The department is working with all states, including Illinois, to investigate and remedy any problems that will prevent our men and women serving overseas from having the opportunity to vote and have their votes counted."

I don't have a link as I'm on my phone but in most of the Chicago wards that are heavily populated by blacks the computerized system shows the Green Party candidate Rich Whitney's name come up as "Rich Whitey" on the review screen.

That was two weeks ago that I heard that and they said there wasn't time to change it.

I wish Cook County would become the 51st state so Illinois could quit being drug through the mud.
