Well... since there were no cellular phones in 1928, there would be no need for towers to relay signals that do not exist, right?
How does your cell phone work... in places where there are no cellular relays?

What if she's from so far into the future that the cell phones don't need towers or satellites? Or an even crazier idea then that would be she has a walkie talkie.

All i know is if I were a time traveler, surely the first thing I would do is go on the set of a Chaplin film and sneak into the background for a split second while on my blackberry. It would be fucking awesome.
